This was a classic case of breaking down the mental game of someone who is playing far better than you. Almagro was playing out of his skin for the first two sets but Haas found a way to hang in and produced some huge backhands to sneak the tiebreaker (helped by some absurd shot selection too). Haas was on the brink of imploding under Almagro's avalanche of aces but in the end it was Nico that snapped when he couldn't get it done in the second set.
The mentally stronger player (by about 2%) overcame the player in much better form here.

That will be the last victory of Rafa for quite some time.. With his joke mentality and pathetic game, I hope the disgusting player loses every single match next season. He's disgraceful. He should just retire. He's a joke.
Almagro had 5 breakpoints in the second set and won many more points on Haas' serve than the opposite.
That's very harsh for him for his WTF chances, esp. as his worst optional is 150 points (comparing to Monaco or Gasquet 45, and Raonic 55), then it will be very hard for him to get points in Stockholm and Valencia.
But it's very good for Monaco's, Gasquet's, Raonic's (or even maybe Isner's or Cilic's) hopes to be at least first substitute in the WTF.
