By the way, this thread was about Djokovic, you probably shouldn't discuss Federer here, plenty of other threads for that.
I'm afraid you're wrong here. Djokovic made finals at both Cincinnati and the USO, and won Canada before that.

And uhm, Federer..? You mean David Ferrer?

I invite you to bring your arguments for David Ferrer as HC goat. I don't expect them to be any worse than your previous ones.

Three times: Isner in Indian Wells, Tipsy in Madrid, Delpo in Olympics.

And he wants to be a best in the world style of players, which he has clearly been in 2012.
I'll remember that the next time you say Ferrer or anyone else is vulturing.

'Since June' is not a big deal.

But, in a different view, he lost his last 3 matches against Nadal, lost his last 2 against Federer, and lost his last 2 against Murray.
Not really a good record for a "real No.1".

Nope. I don't think I ever claimed that beating one/a select few particular players was more important than beating the field

Yeah you're right, I'd MUCH rather, as a top 4 tennis player, beat loads of journeymen than my main rival(s).

Re: Djokovic hasn't beaten a fellow member of the Big 4 since early June...

What a stupid thread.... sinc eJune.... long time...

Now realistically in those matches - vs Nadal RG F - he wasn´t favorit there

Roger indoor grass + fast Cinci - he wasn´t favorit there i think - by bookies probably yes, but honestly he is not supposed to be beating Roger at grass and fast HC is 50/50 - but we all know Roger is better server and his record in Cinci so he lost there nothing surprising

Murray- grass match - Murray is better grass court player and no matter Nole has Wimby title, Murray is better on grass and that mtch was super close - again no shame to loose here.

Murray- USO - this match was in extreme conditions and the man who survived out there won the F, that´s it

Neither of those matches were like Nole was supposed to win - if he would loose to Murray on clay or Nadal at Cinci for example that would be bad, but all those matches even if he was favorite it was supposed to be close match so it is o.k. he will beat Roger or Andy soon and if Rafa will make indoors - he will destroy him there.

Novak isn't just a top 4 tennis player though, he's the best player in the world and the ranking will reflect just that at the end of the year bar some very unforeseeable turn of events.

Sure, he will need to beat them again if he wants to win another Slam, but for the moment he's doing better than anyone else against the entire field and that's what matters most. It is about as relevant as Federer's negative H2H against Nadal in his #1/dominant years.

Re: Djokovic hasn't beaten a fellow member of the Big 4 since early June...

I wonder how his #1 will look if he gets beaten by Murderer in Shanghai and in London again without scoring one win. It is very possible and it may happen but in the mean time he may as well win Paris where no one of his stature will probably show up.

It's a bad run, no doubt. But if I was a Djokovic fan I'd still be happy with things, he's the most consistent player in the world, picked up a slam, consistently making finals.... and he will beat the others again without a doubt. Just a bad run and nothing much to read into.

Of course you didn't.

You are just calling players "vultures", and claiming that their rankings are inflated because they try to avoid the top players etc.

He's entered the decline phase of his career seeing as he could only defend one of three slams, the opposite of Federer during his peak years circa 2004-2007.

More like Federer in 2008 and Nadal in 2011. Slams won't come as easily in the future as they did for Djokovic in 2011, his peak year. He will soon hit 600+ matches which is when players begin declining as seen in the past 20 years.
