Things will get interesting in Paris.
When did he announce he won't play Basel, what about that atp 500 requirement rule? He only played Dubai 500 and nothing else?

Better player won. Tsonga had his chances in the first set but blew them by overcooking his shots, quite a few of them being mistakes actually forced by Djoko.
Deserved victory for Djoko but nice to see Tsonga doing rather well on indoor HC again.

And Layhani failing to have that point replayed after Djoko rightfully challenged but in stead handing over the point directly to Djoko whereas Tsonga did get his racket on the shot, might not have made matters any better, I think.

Honestly, I had to look twice at the scoreboard when I woke up to confirm Djokovic won a TB. I was genuinely surprised.

Re: China Open Final :: Djokovic d. Tsonga 7-6(4) 6-2

my god, djokovic won a tie break, what is this shit?

expected result, tsonga does not have the consistency, or the mentality to stay with djokovic. after the first set was often, result was never in doubt

djokovic putting his foot in the water when it comes to vulturing small tournaments

fortunately, he won't have to do it too often to procure the number 1 ranking, unlike federer

Basel is not in his schedule, he doesn't have to announce anything - except if he wants to play after all. Then he'll get a WC.

The 500 requirement is not something the top players take too seriously. None of them has played four this year. Nor did they last year. As MC counts to the 500 category, Djokovic will end up with three - same as Federer.

I don't think Lahyani's call really affected anything. Jo played a good couple of points after that before making his mistakes to lose the TB.

I do feel that the current way handling of overruling a call like that is quite shaky though. It tends to be a split-second thing and relying entirely on the umpire's discretion on a case to case basis is only asking for arguments.
