I can't imagine someone thanking the French for baguettes or the English for crumpets after winning there

Why stop with cuisine though? Djokovic and Nadal could have talked about kangaroos and wombats in their speeches at the Aussie Open.

I don't recall any of those. Perhaps there were some Murray haters that took the opportunity to gloat after his first loss since the USO, but I think Raonic fans know better than most that Andy wasn't at his best yesterday.

Re: Tokyo F: Nishikori bagels Raonic 7-6(5) 3-6 6-0

Today's match really shows how much nishikori has improved his return game I think. He used to crack some returns occasionally but his backhand return this week dtl was simply superb and so consistent. It will be a crucial part of his game he'll need to crack into the top ten in addition to beefing up his own serve. He's made some progress in that area but it could be even better. Getting past raonic's serve is definitely a big step up as he can now challenge others like isner.

He'll be tired for shanghai but also he's defending a lot of points here so it'll be a tough week for him physically

Phew. I finally can speak now. I was so afraid of my jinxing superpower, I didn't make a littlest noise all match long: I was silent as a mouse under the broom. Now I can speak and i feel like screaming: WOOHOO!!!! WE HAVE WAITED FOUR YEARS!

Kei's ROS were strikes of genius, and finally, finally he is in good form, so fit, so fast, so strong! And so clever! The volley he played to make 5-0 30-15 was just LOL. Playing with Raonic like he was a child. And yes, Raonic looked like a lost kid in jungles, he didn't know what the hell is happening

This obviously puts everything into perspective. Nishikori > Raonic > Murray

Great stuff Kei!

Very well done Nishikori on your biggest title yet, knew he'd rise to the occasion in front of his home crowed. Bagelling a servebot is very impressive, must have been returning like a GOAT!

Raonic is the most overrated player. Him and his tards brought back down to earth with a bang. This guy is not winning slams. On the other hand Kori is very underrated and rarely gets talked about. Today he rises to the occasion, with the pressure of playing in front of home fans. That is a great sign and if any of the younger players are going to win slams in a few years it is him or Tomic.

Good observation. As you probably recall, he was already difficult for Djokovic and Berdych indoors. Last year in Basel, Nishikori beat Berdych in 3 sets, and faced a well rested Djokovic and won in a similar fashion with a bagel in the decider.

Kei has the quickness and game for indoors and faster surfaces. He has more trouble indoors with top players with excellent variety like Murray and Federer. He also doesn't do as well on slow hard courts like Miami. I would think he could have better results on grass, but he doesn't so far. One of the other keys to Nishikori is staying healthy as he has been troubled over the years by various injuries.

Respectfully,
masterclass

It's not because he is Asian, it's because he started showing his potential in 2008. People started desperately seeking for "new blood" in 2010, when Kei already was something like "old crippled veteran" along with Del Potro, and I suppose they didn't even realize, that Del Potro and Nishikori are almost the same age with these "Young Guns" (and for god's sake, Dolgopolov is 24! He cannot be "new generation" at all!)
