Will Coria win Roland Garros 2005??

I really did feel sorry for him against Gaudio in the final this year.I guess the nerves just got the better of him. However I still think he is the best claycourter in the world and hopefully will come back even stronger in 2005.

Do you think the experience of 2004 will help him?
Or do you think the nerves will strike again?

I think a lot of it will depend on how Federer fares on the clay next season, as I cant see anyone else and that includes the likes of Gaudio and Ferrero, beating Coria.

Re: Will Coria win Roland Garros 2005??

I'll take the plunge - not next year no.

When players undergo any type of big surgery, often it takes them a while to get back to their old form. You just need to look at examples of Kuerten and Rusedski (still yet to get back to their very best), Henman, Ivanisevic....the list goes on.

I expect Coria to start the year off slowly and he might find he has tougher players to contend with next year. I expect Ferrero to get back to something like his best but maybe not true title contender. If you ask me, the favourites as of this week should be Safin and Canas.

Yeah. And whoever disagrees with me is retarded. Just kidding. We will see next year, you never know what the future will bring.

Who wants to play with my balls?

I agree with Jez. There are so many excellent players who can win RG that it is probably the hardest Slam to win, and major surgery takes a long while
to recover from. Safin definately has a strong chance in 2005 I think, also Nalbandian (remembering his excellent run there last year), and Ferrero. I also agree that Canas could be a great contender. I'm not discounting the fact that Coria may win it one day - but probably not next year.

I guess my reply would be: that depends on the players he will face, if they will have the same motivation as him. Motivation is the word.

Yeah - I forgot Fat Davheed! Whatever tournament he enters he has a great chance of doing well...and often does. So, if he enters RG next year then he stands a great chance of improving on the SF.

I will forgive you the "Fat Davheed" because you're being nice about him He was definately injured in his semi-final at RG last year -although unlike some Coria fans we don't whinge about the fact that he lost to Gaudio - and I'm hoping he can go one better in 2005. I also think we're forgetting Moya who is always a threat on clay.

Re: Will Coria win Roland Garros 2005??

I'm not Coria's biggest fan, but yes: if somebody comes to my mind who would deserve to win it, then it would be definitely Coria. He is so great on clay (but also on other surfaces), just look at his clay season results over his whole career and let them speak for themselves.

A lot of depends how he comes back after his injury and how he starts into the season to get some playing practise, so it's not sure in what form we will see him next season. But if he can't win it next season, I hope he can do so later at any stage of his career.

yes, I think so, it will help him. The best ones often had bitter defeats before they finally won something big for a breakthrough.

But in general, it's always so hard to say who wins a Grand Slam because -as Stich once correctly said some time ago- talent, being able to hit every shot and being one of the greatest of your time often isn't enough because you need to be really focused at the right moment, it must be "your day" and you need a piece of luck as well.

Carlos --- C'MON Lleyton!!! --- Kiwi!!! --- Jürgen --- Juan

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy
