Gael Monfils pulled out of Tokyo

Ivo Karlovic in against Murray as a lucky loser.

This info is from Twitter, I'll try to find a source that confirms it. I'm sure it's 100% true, though.

Monfils is so brainless...recovering from long injury, and travelling from Europe to Asia instead of playing competititve challengers in France and Belgium...

Re: Gael Monfils pulled out of Tokyo

The real news here is now we're only 2 withdrawals away for Pospisil getting into te main draw, the tournament organizer is still hopeful he'll get to showcase Vasek's talent on stadium court

Sad for Monfils though, hope he's ok

How would that have prevented him getting injured? He'd still be playing tennis, even in challengers.

Re: Gael Monfils pulled out of Tokyo

Did anyone consider that once he saw he gets Murray in round 1 he just said 'f*ck this' I mean I don't condone it because it's against the spirit of sport, but it'd certainly be understandable. Anyway, I hope he isn't dealing with any serious injury.

Re: Gael Monfils pulled out of Tokyo

Monfils has gone back to France to have some right knee examinations, French journalists start talking of a possible surgery

Re: Gael Monfils pulled out of Tokyo

That always amazes me on MTF that people think they know better than the players directly concerned : it's not that easy to know the exact knee situation, Monfils had plenty of medical advice before his come-back but doctors often have no certainties.

They thought he could play again, now it's not that sure but wait and see, maybe journalists are too alarmist.

I had heard he wanted to be very careful before coming back and anyway I don't understand the difference if he had played challengers, he would have played quite as much anyway

useless old guy

Re: Gael Monfils pulled out of Tokyo

What was his exact diagnosis before (since May when he pulled out of RG)? I mean was it a torn tendon or sth? Just want to better understand what he may be dealing with.

Re: Gael Monfils pulled out of Tokyo

Good decision. In the past he would probably play injured.

This is something new.
