Re: Gael Monfils in danger of early retirement

Too bad if this happens.

Is he another victim of too much hard court tennis?

Can't believe this.

If it happens I might be done with tennis, first Soderling (still hoping he comes back!) and now Gael.

Re: Gael Monfils pulled out of Tokyo

They have those knee problems because of their style of play.Monfils,Nadal,Djokovic all of them play the same way. When ever i watch them play i get tired and i am afraid they would get broken legs.

GM is full of useless threads whereas threads about top players' injuries and top-players maybe missing a big tournament are useful for many ones here who don't always visit the player's section and their usually very informative "XX's picture thread"

Actually a sticky thread about players' injuries would be very well needed like the one in the past which was not well kept in the long term.

It's much more useful imo than the usual "X def. Y" "vulture won" "good for tennis" "what a choke" threads with no info about the match at all apart from the result and the sheep's reaction

Gael said "tout va bien", no need for surgery. He's still planning to play Stockholm, Valencia and Bercy.

Currently, Monfils is as much of a threat to Murray as Nishikori or Almagro are on hardcourt. In other words, he was never beating Andy.

Re: Gael Monfils pulled out of Tokyo

His game style imposes far too much stress and wear on his body.

The current greatness league of active players in order of achievements to date (a factual comparison rather than fan biased assessment):

Federer 17 GS, 6 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.
Nadal 14 GS, 27 Master Series, 1 Olympic Gold.
Djokovic 9 GS, 4 Year End Masters, 24 Master Series.

precisely, according to the doctor, the cartilage looks OK and the pain should be manageable without a surgery.

He will not play Shanghai and will finish the year in Europe with anti-inflamatories for the pain.

Monfils's coach says that his words which said "maybe he played his final match in Bangkok" were considered as too affirmative comparing to what he meant.

Re: Gael Monfils pulled out of Tokyo

Chamagne explained they will decide with the doctor and Gael at the end of the season if he will have to do the surgery or not. And his calendar will be managed differently.

Moreover, i'm pretty glad to see the comments here, i often see really mean comments about Gael and i'm happy to see people are smart and sympathetic to the Gael's situation. It's not always the case on the french forums ...

Season over for Gaël. He says his knee is getting better though, and there are no talks of surgery anymore...
