Mental Breakdown Statistics [Top 8]

I created some stats about the way the top 20 players respond to losing a tight set. A lot of them have huge letdowns and lose the next set(s) comfortably. I gathered some numbers here.

Total close sets lost* - The number of sets the player has lost with a 6-7 or 5-7 score.
Following sets lost - Every close set loss is followed by another set. This is the number of times the player has lost the following set too.
Losing percentage - Following sets lost / Total close sets lost.
Career set losing percentage - Just to put the stats in perspective with the player's level of play.

*NOTE: The 'Total close sets lost' stat doesn't include sets that turned out to be the last set of a match, just those that were followed by another set. A close set loss is 6-7 or 5-7.

Roger Federer

Total close sets lost: 199
Following sets lost: 74
Losing percentage (of following sets): 37%
Career set losing percentage: 24%

Novak Djokovic

Total close sets lost: 108
Following sets lost: 50
Losing percentage (of following sets): 46%
Career set losing percentage: 28%

Andy Murray

Total close sets lost: 84
Following sets lost: 36
Losing percentage (of following sets): 42%
Career set losing percentage: 30%

Rafael Nadal

Total close sets lost: 106
Following sets lost: 40
Losing percentage (of following sets): 37%
Career set losing percentage: 23%

David Ferrer

Total close sets lost: 141
Following sets lost: 73
Losing percentage (of following sets): 52%
Career set losing percentage: 37%

Tomas Berdych

Total close sets lost: 123
Following sets lost: 66
Losing percentage (of following sets): 54%
Career set losing percentage: 38%

Jo Wilfried Tsonga

Total close sets lost: 96
Following sets lost: 49
Losing percentage (of following sets): 51%
Career set losing percentage: 34%

Juan Martin Del Potro

Total close sets lost: 84
Following sets lost: 41

Funny - they were who we thought they were?

Rafa leading in the mental stability department, Roger hot on his heels (career wise), Djoker, Murray. Birdy as biggest choker.

No surprises there.

Isn't it the other way round? Nadal loses 14% more sets after losing a tight set while Federer loses only 13% more.

Thanks. Can you tell me how many sets did Nole loose 5-7 or 6-7 and how many he won with the same score this year? I think it'll be a chocker number.

Well, they're interesting statistics, but to be honest, except Federer and Nadal who clearly have an advantage, the others are really very close...

He is 20-20 this year. Should imply excellent vision

Last year he was 19-11.

Federer is 32-16 this year, if you include a 19-17 set.

Thank you .Better than I expected but still poor. I remeber every important loss this year having at least one set with this score. RG, W, Olim and USO when the set was close we already knew how it would end.

Re: Mental Breakdown Statistics [Top 8]

Yeah they are pretty close. The biggest thing here is Djokovic's numbers.
