Stepanek played a great match though, all he lacked IMO was conviction and the belief that he could win. Had he had those it might have been a very different match.
That 2nd set was typically OAFish squandering the break by Marat, but he hung in there when he needed to.
It was funny that that Radek only really started to get into the match when he decided to put a headband on and become a wannabe Ninja. Maybe Safin thought he was facing Federer across the net and that disturbed his concentration
Anyway, fine play by Marat. It wasn't the prettiest performance but he has done what no man has done before him, and that is win both indoor TMS events back to back in the same year. Well done
