Re: Challenger Istanbul F: Tursunov def. Mannarino 64 76
While it's great to see Mitya winning a title of any kind (he has 2/3 of his points to defend next month and a half) his play in the final hardly looked promising for his future. His footwork deteriorated to the point of non-existence literally. Ability to hit the ball on the rise has never been his forte but nowadays he's late to virtually every single ball. The consequences are less dramatic when he hits FH (it's still a pretty big shot though more and more often he just loops it a la Wozniacka) but his BH already damaged by poor timing even in his best years is now left in shatters. Mannarino fought off numerous BPs in set 1 simply by directing 2nd serves to Tursunov's BH and Mitya would miss tramlines on return time and again. Dunno how Mitya managed to break Mannarino to force 2nd set TB (had to leave after 3-4) but the Frenchman just gifted him service games on the first two occassions. On setpoint at 4-5 Mannarino netted an impossible-to-miss overhead, on BP at 2-1 in set 2 he doublefaulted.
