Novak wasted the chance of his generation

I am sure he was very capable of winning the most coveted Golden Slam this year. He had a promising start of the season by winning Melbourne. And then...

RG - lost the finals to Rafa
Wimbledon - lost SF to eventual champion Roger
Olympics - lost SF against eventual gold medalist Andy
USO - lost the finals to Andy

I was kinda rooting for him to achieve it because I did not yet live to see Graf's '88 glory. He could have been our generation's icon. Such a waste...

To the future!

Nishikori, Berankis, Raonic, Kuznetsov, Dimitrov, Coric

Re: Novak wasted the chance of his generation

Naw, he wasn't that close. Had he lost in the Wimbledon final and Olympics final, yeah, but as both were SF defeats, not really that noteworthy to be honest.

Federer / Haas / Safin / Gaudio / Kuerten / Youzhny / Nadal / Gonzalez / Ljubicic / Hewitt / Soderling / Wawrinka / Coria / Nalbandian / Kohlschreiber

Last year was his chance. Djokovic 2.0 is gone and I suspect he will never come back. Can't wait for next year. Murray will hopefully win another major. I hope the Pony improves against the big 4 next year.

Re: Novak wasted the chance of his generation

He didn't play good enough to beat Roger in Wimbledon. But anyway all he needed was to win RG and Olympics for it to be Golden Slam in my view. Unlucky that he faced the best Rafa ever in RG and the best Murray ever in Olympics.

Re: Novak wasted the chance of his generation

It's disgusting that Nole let 31 year old has-been become the number one player in the world, and then let Murray become a slam winner. Such a waste this year. He will never get this opportunity against such a weak field again, what with Rafa coming back next year and Murray having the confidence to win more slams.

He wasted 2008-2010 by just winning 1 slam.

Djokovic 2.0 is a goner. He will win 8 or maybe 9 slams. Nowhere close to a GOAT like some of his fans thought.

No one serious predicted a CYGGS for Nole.

It's too bad he will probably be the only one remembered as the one who lost a GS final to Murray

Nole fans becoming worse than Fed fans with their expectations

Nole is still leading the YTD rankings race

Re: Novak wasted the chance of his generation

If you look at the other top 4 this year...Nole was really the big loser.

10 years from now people will probably say he was this eras Hewitt.

Re: Novak wasted the chance of his generation

If djokovic could have achieved the calendar slam, it would have been last year. This year, he wasn't close to it. He barely won AO against rafa. And now he has lost the USO to Murray, of all people.
If anyone, it was federer who came closest to the Calender slam, for 2 consecutive years! He is the real icon.
