how good of a tv line-judge are you?

no question that however slow some people say the courts /or balls are these days, that professionals hammer lines faster than any of us could on our best days.

however, when you're watching and there's a close call that results in a hawkeye challenge, how often do you end up being right on the call?

i'll admit it's frightening how poor i am, and makes me wonder if i'm always screwing over my opponent when i'm playing them myself.

furthermore, have any of you ever worked as a line judge at a tournament before? how was it? ever get screamed at or realise that you made a terrible mistake?

Haha I think I'm pretty good too, especially with serves.
And strangely, I'm better with baseline calls than with sidelines

I'm on a streak of 16 correct calls.

it might be the way i see the ball coming over the net. i almost always think it's going to go long, but then usually it drops a few feet behind the baseline.

time for a new pair of glasses, perhaps...

I am not particularly good. I'm not really keeping track, but it seems to me misses are at least as frequent as correct calls. But at least I'm impartial at it as a viewer - as often wrongly calling "in" when I'm hoping for "out" as wrongly calling "out" when I'm hoping for "out".

If I were line-judge, Isner, Raonic and Karlovic would never have first serve in, never see it happening from screen.

Gasquet is next №1

Re: how good of a tv line-judge are you?

exactly, and it's not like you have a few seconds to determine whether it was in or out. you have to decide immediately.

that's why it annoys me when armchair officials have a go at the linespeople when it's an extremely difficult job to do right.

Usually get the drop shots right, when it's closer than that, I'm out.

set 1 of roland garros final when federer tried a drop shot on set point against nadal last year, what did you immediately think?

my gut feeling usually goes against the player i'm cheering for, oddly enough.

Miles wide, clearly.

The thought of Olderer pulling that off at Roland Garros against Nadal alone

That is really weird. The parallax error is way bigger for the baseline for us tv viewers.

I'm usually right on the sidelines, let's say 90%, and about 50% on baseline. On the horizontal serveline it's totally random for me, maybe it amounts to a decent percentage in the end but I definitely suck at it.
