Who has the best chance of upsetting Djokovic at this years US Open?

Based on what we have seen Djokovic is surely on his way to Grand Slam title number 6. But who of the other 3 has the best chance (on current & past form) to upset the Serb?

Tomas Berdych - Arguably playing the best tennis of the 3 other semi-finalists, took Roger to the cleaners but he has a 9-1 losing h2h record against the Serb.

David Ferrer - Buoyed on from his 5 set win over Tipsarevic - could this finally be his time to make a slam final? With confidence high and a decent h2h record it could just be.

Andy Murray - They have had some great tussles in the past including that epic 5 setter at the Australian Open semi-final stage earlier this year. Murray schooled him at the Olympics but his level right now is much lower than we have come to expect.

Can anyone do it? Or should we all be betting our houses on Novak holding that trophy come Sunday/Monday evening?

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned....

Nah, seriously, I thought Muzz had a chance but he's been beyond awful this tournament. Djokovic seems to be hitting form in the right moment to cruise to #1.
Murray seems tired and he has not played well enough to threaten Novak. I hope I'm wrong as I said I would like to see him win the USO if RF were to bomb out although Berdych would be my preferred choice here.

I am not even going to talk about Berdych's chances who will either fold or just come up short as he was not THAT great against Roger. Ferrer is the closest we have to a SF bye for Djoko.

Re: Who has the best chance of upsetting Djokovic at this years US Open?

It's difficult to read anything from his previous matches. He didnt't look convincing in the start of the olympic tournament losing a set to Fatdatis in round 3 but then he progressively upped his game and won the tournament. You can say that Cilic sucked but the truth is that things started changing at 2-5 when Murray started taking control of the game and dictating the pace.
There are two Murrays the annoying pusher that just sits on the baseline and waits for opponents errors and the one who plays attacking tennis (yes this Murray exists), imo it will depend on which one shows up. Furthermore he knows Djokovic will be the big favorite in the final and that will motivate him even more.

Re: Who has the best chance of upsetting Djokovic at this years US Open?

I would say Berdych has best chance. I know his H2H is horrible vs Nole, but if he beats Murray his confidence will be super high and he really has everything it takes to win vs Nole. YES AA is pretty slow court, but if he has decent FS% + can keep his UE low, he can beat anyone including Nole.

2nd choice is Murray close to Berdych, i think Murray´s chances are little bit lower than Tomas´s because Murray doesn´t have such agressive style and he can go to 4-5 sets long match vs Nole and i think mentally Nole is better at it, i mean Murray will have in his mind oh no please don´t loose this 5x F again or something like that. Also his level at this tournament is very ups and down

Ferrer- has basically no chance, Nole will beat him in straight sets, it won´t be demolishion but i think Nole will do it in straight sets.

Andy Murray, he should be able to win 1 set if he plays Nole in the final. Can't see Pics or Berdych winning a set against Nole.

Djokovic, Federer, Tsonga, Del Potro, Wawrinka, Thiem, Nishikori, Raonic

Congrats Djokovic on winning 2016 French Open and becoming the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win 4 consecutive majors!

Re: Who has the best chance of upsetting Djokovic at this years US Open?

Murray got more than a chanse, if he gets past Berdych he should defeat Djokovic. Djokovic got no answers to Murray at full swing on faster courts.

All things are subject to interpretation whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.
