Sorry - didn't read original thread post and responded to another one. My bad.

Even so, easy tiger...it's just some faceless nobodies posting their opinions on the internet. Nothing to get worked up about...

Federer can be consistent when he wants to be. Watch RG 2011 semi where he served like Jesus on crack.

Fed was much more consistent and made less errors when he was younger.

Now he's up and down.

This is one factor of age more then the physical aspect of aging. Almost any great player that went into their 30's has reported, you have some of your very best days you've ever had, then are are days mentally you just don't have it in you. The daily focus seems to get harder with age. Some of the greats have spoken a lot about this. Wasn't really their body, it was more mental just couldn't focus as much on a given day.

He beat Nole from the ground for a majority of the first half or more of that match. Not saying the serve didn't play a part.

Answer OP question: It's because he has a lot of tools at his disposal and he can pick apart the lower ranked guys with obvious flaws in their game. He'll still be streaky but he can ride it out. His slice/drive backhand shots keeps that wing from being a liability but it's exposed by the top players especially obvious name #1 and obvious name #2.

He can serve players off the court in early rounds.
