Roger must make berdshit his turkey before retiring. berdshit likes to bend over for nadal but plays 1000% against Roger.... maybe uncle Toni has his hand on this...

Re: Why is berdych so tough for federer?

Berdych isn't much different from the other big hitters. Federer doesn't like it because he isn't in control. He also doesn't like facing players with big serves, no matter if its the big hitter team (berd, tsonga, delpo, soderling) or the real big servers like Isner.

Fed is also a very tactically gifted player and he benefits playing predicatable players where he can easily read the serve and the groundgame. Berdych is a tricky player to read. Sometimes going ultra-aggressive to the net, sometimes grinding it out from the baseline, sometimes going for broke, sometimes taking pace off. Much better for Roger vs someone like Ferrer where he knows the opponents game exactly and knows what to expect on important points like BPs.

Even if his H2H looks good against most big hitters, he knows if the big hitter catches fire he's done. happened vs delpo in USO, vs Soderling in RG, vs Tsonga in Wimbledon.........vs Berdych next in USO?

On fast, low bouncing conditions, Fed can still trump these guys with angles and variations.
those guys are difficult to handle if they are "on fire". it's not only fed who has problems against them if they play superb. tsonga annihilated nadal at the ao 2008, del potro bitchslapped him at the uso 2009. djoker lost to tsonga ao 2010 and should have lost at rg this year too... those guys are real threats for the big3 if they can get there shit together...

Re: Why is berdych so tough for federer?

So....people thinks Berych is he reason Federer has problem vs him? i think its just Federer plays bad vs him, not playing agressive enough (playing save and wait him to make mistake) and then Berdych has tons of chance to hit his powerful forehands, if Roger shorten the points vs Berdych and play more agressive, watch how Berdych will flood.

The only players who can be factor regardless of Federer form are Nole and Nadal, whenever he play someone else and losing, its mostly because hes level is bellow normal/good.

Cheating scumbag.

Re: Why is berdych so tough for federer?

for some reason, berdych usually plays his best against federer. i think he's a good match up for him, plus berdych is probly more motivated to play well against a guy like federer.

I disagree. IMO, it's because Fed has declined in movement and therefore ROS. In his heyday, he had no problems with big servers/hitters (actually he had no problem with anybody consistently except Nadal). He would block their serves and was fast enough to play defensively until they missed. That slight loss of speed translates into not being able to go toe to toe with the youngsters. Instead he's got to use his variety (remember he used to scoff at the drop shot) and more strategy/tactics to stay with them. Plus his confidence is not what it used to be so he's not as free-flowing as he used to be.

Re: Why is berdych so tough for federer?

Agree that Roger´s ROS and reaction declined, but i think Berdych can be tough for him, tougher than other big hitters, because he has almost no weakness - i mean Delpo is just to tall, slice can bother him, also his serve is ,,average,,
Tsonga- his ROS is joke
Soderling- when he was here, his record vs Roger was horrible, his movement was exposed

Berdych-pretty good ROS, can kill 2nd serves, pretty good serve-FS% only ,,weakness, i can think rignt how. Movement good, FH great, BH good,

Re: Why is berdych so tough for federer?

The biggest reason is how Berdych returns Fed`s second serve. Rogie got used not only to be in safe position after second serve, but even takes points immidiately after it like after 1st serve, but Berdych is one of the 4-5 guys who really attacks it permanently with success.

Gasquet is next №1

Re: Why is berdych so tough for federer?

The VERY MAIN reason why Berdych is a peculiar problem for Federer is that he returns Fed's serve very well, esp. his return on Fed's second serve is extremely dangerous.

For whatever reason players have very different abilities to return the serve from this or that player, I mean independently from the overall quality of the serve and return of these players. And from my observation that's the most common explanation why this or that H2H goes this or that way.

Even the most talked about H2H (Fed-Nadal) has an important dimension which is Fed's peculiar difficulty to return Nadal's serve.

Here the problem is simple : independently from Berdych's general very good level, he returns Fed's serve very well. That's why Fed's serve % will be very important, and why Fed is often on pressure on his serve against Berdych.

The striking zone and footwork often are explanations of H2Hs as well but usually a lesser explanation than the serve/return peculiarities, and here the main explanation is Berdych's return.

useless old guy

And of course, if Fed does win the match, we know the big hitter(s) didn't catch fire

Re: Why is berdych so tough for federer?

He reads and returns Federer's serve better than anyone else on tour at the moment, and can hit through Federer. If his own serve wasn't such a liability (say, if he had Tsonga's serve), Federer would have a really hard time beating him.
