chicken or the egg problem, no? tower's already done this, so no shocker he believes.

Re: Del Potro Believes...

Well, he has beaten Nadal and Fed back to back in the USO, so he knows the drill. He is too modest, he is probably the only one who can beat two top 4 guys back to back at the moment.

Absolutely, if injury free he is the only one who can beat them. No other player comes close.

Roger would disagree (and Nadal as well when he's back)
Well, technically, Ferrer has already beaten both Djokovic and Nadal. So he definitely CAN.
Regarding Federer, though, it's really speculation, because the 13-0 H2H suggests that he cannot

Not that DelPo's record against Roger is much better, 13-2 is pretty lopsided, but he has proved he could. He hasn't beaten him since 2009, though.

Now I know you're going to say "when he's 100% fit" etc... But that's speculation. Being fit and staying fit is also part of the tennis player's "job".
For all I know, Coria could have been one of the greatest clay court players, maybe he could even have given Nadal some trouble, if he had not had problems with cramps or with his shoulder... But his physical condition was his weakness. So I could still claim he was potentially as good as Nadal, there will never be a way to know if it's true or not.

Not that I want to take away from Del Potro, he remains the only guy who has taken a slam outside the Big 3, that's a fact and it's definitely a big achievement. But he also hasn't been further than a QF in a Slam since then.
So, maybe we're going to witness his great come-back, that's all we can wish him, maybe it will happen in this USO, but until this happens, I don't see why people always imply that he's so superior to other players who are better ranked than him.
Yes, he can beat top 3 players, just like Ferrer or Tsonga can. But for the moment it remains pretty unlikely that he can beat several of them in a row again.

It's more than that actually. If he's injury free for say a year, he will not need to beat the top 4 back to back because he will be in the top 4 himself.

At least in some tournaments he does, how else will he get into the top4?

Well the only way to get to the top 4 without beating top 4 players back to back is if he "vultures" (according to your definition).
I know you have something personal against players who you think are guilty of vulturing so if you wouldn't mind explaining yourself...

Gulbis Ferrer Nishikori
Isner Nadal Dimitrov Istomin Wawrinka B. Baker

Berdych Monaco Granollers Leo-Mayer Troicki Roger-Vasselin Lu Paire

PAW Titles: Brisbane 2012 & 2014
FITD Titles: Marseille 2014

Doubles: Noumea CH '13 w/ Chirag, Cherbourg CH '14, Yokohama CH '15 w/ BMT360

Re: Del Potro Believes...

Delpo needs to start working harder on his fitnes. Enough with mini injury every other week. I hope he brings his A game in AO 2013 and starts playing like he can (Novak will wipe the floor with him in the QF here). In a year or 2, if/when Fed declines, Rafa has a question mark over his head right now, Juan has a chance to be the no2 behind Novak. But if he plays most of the year like he is playing right now he will be ranked about no5.

Djokovic | Tipsarevic | Querrey

+1 completely true. Dont need to add anything, just the two WONT ever have a slam with that mindset......
