He was not that good, but it was enough.

Sock has a lot of issues to work on.
His movement is not Top 100 worthy.
His variety is not Top 50 worthy.
Some good serves and shots though from the young american.
This.

You're right and this is exactly where we are separated. It's all about what kind of style of play you enjoy watching. To me, Sock is much more enjoyable to watch rather than Ferrer or even Djokovic.

Sock is hard opponent in 1st round, but in 3rd Almagro could have played against Roddick or Fish for example - a bit another level, yeah?

Gasquet is next №1

Yes, this is the better season of Nico in slams.

Sock played well and he does have good touch that he did show off. He probably has to learn how to slice and work on his backhand but with Better fitness, he could have won this match. Yes he was 40- 0 looking for a break in that third set but that was more because of Almagro's choking on serve then anything. Really close match where Sock ran out of gas.

He'll improve.

Neither Petszner, Sock nor Stepanek were easy right?

Valiant effort by Sock, but unfortunately the gas tank came up a little short in the end. It's true that Jack's game is still a little rough around the edges, but more experience can remedy that. The thing that most impresses me about Sock is that he's already showing signs of good mental toughness and fight. He's also not afraid of performing on the big stage. Those are qualities that have been found wanting in a lot of today's young players. The main areas that he needs to improve now are his backhand, fitness, and court positioning. With continued hard work and good coaching, I can see a bright future ahead for this young man. Best of luck going forward, Jack!

Stepanek is great player. And he still can be a problem, but in another format of play. 5 sets - too much for 34 years old guy.

If you follow Petzschner for years, you know that even Paire is mental focused giant in comparison with Phil. He can play very well, yep, but on big points you should play direct and easy for taking your chances and Phil just can hit with any thought, then depressed and play is over. I like this guy, but he is 10-th level choker.

About Sock I have written already.

Almagro wasn`t that lucky on 1st week like Nole, for example, but he got cool draw. It could be far harder.

Gasquet is next №1

at those morons saying the better play lost...The better player won and I am not even a fan of Almugro...Thanks for taking out that annoying trash though...Suck is not fit and its a shame that an overhyped, pretty useless player like Suck even made it to the 3R of slam...Outside the states, he is even more useless...Suck's fitness is horrendous, has no variety at all, poor movement and just club level errors all over the place...Not to mention that horrific bratty, whining, cry-baby attitude and annoying cmon's after winning basic points..

All he has is a forehand on HC and that isn't going to be nearly enough to become a Top player...You have to have a varied game and be able to play on varied surfaces...So fucking glad Suck is gone...The draw doesnt need any more weak ass players getting lucky and going through...Thanks for taking out that annoying, overhyped, immature trash bag again, Almugro

Sock hits a big ball but that is it. He lacks variety, doesn't know how to construct points, has an average backhand and needs to improve his fitness. He seems like a nice enough guy in interviews but his game is ugly to watch and he has the most annoying fans in the tournament.

I see more potential in Sock, at this point early in his career, than I do in Harrison or Blake.

He's a bit more fearless and seems to do better under intense conditions (note: Harrison at the Olympics).

I hope Sock can sustain this level of performance outside America. By the way, what about those missed break points ?
Plus, Sock needs to develop his tactics throught the matches. I love watching ballbashing but in order to achieve bigger goals,24/7 ballbashing will not help. Needs more variety.
another sad result after 18 years old Nov yesterday.

Sock is my top pick. Now done

forgot it. I am not go watch USOPEN until 2013

horrible 3rd set
