Did you think he forgot how to hit a tennis ball in a few months?
That being said, and as the poll results here would suggest, it's fairly likely he'll be winning majors again before long. If he can stay fit, that is...

well it's just promising to see him hitting balls again! certainly he will be back for 2013, whether or not he's in great form will be a question, but it's obvious he's going to train hard and a month or two is more than enough to get back to form

Re: Rafael Nadal Injury/Health Update Thread : Spanish Press: Nadal not in DC etc

This is really great for tennis and the world at large. A sight for sore eyes, seeing him practicing, and seeming to be in good shape.

He exploded well into a couple forehands in that vid, and the serve was looking solid too. Very smart to keep him off the court until he was 100%.

Like he said, this break will extend his career, and I hope it does.

Now a video can only show so much. The real question is how will he hold up under a long match, and will his timing be in place or will be revert to a defensive game until he gets his timing right, probably around Monte Carlo?

I predict maybe R16/QF for AO, and he will come around by the clay season, take RG, and have chances at Wimbledon and USO.

History tells us that Nadal's health issues are never that serious and he always back... This time should be no different - except the competition is harder than ever with gluten-free Novak, major-winner Muzza and Juan-M back in the top 10. Can Rafa keep up with the new generation?

You forget how incredibly talented these guys are. They don't forget how to play after 6 months.
He started hitting balls 3 or 4 days ago, but didn't want to receive the media until he was sure everything would go well and the knee won't give him problems.

New radio interview today. Interesting bits: he considered surgery but his doctors preferred the more conservative approach; wants to maximise the next 5 years; isn't expecting a lot from first few tournaments including Australian Open - wants to be 100% by Monte Carlo; doesn't care what his ranking is as long as he's competitive and enjoying himself - talked about depends on why you're ranked 15 - he could end up playing less in the future and so being ranked lower, but still being competitive.

Rafa Nadal is aiming to be back to his best after injury in time for the claycourt season and the run-up to Roland Garros, the Spaniard said on Monday. The 26-year-old former world number one has slipped down to fourth in the ATP rankings and has not played since his shock second-round exit at Wimbledon in June. The Spaniard was diagnosed with a partial tear of the patella tendon and inflammation of the left knee, only returning to hitting balls on a practice court two weeks ago. "My recovery is going well and the doctors are pleased," Nadal told Spanish radio. "I have to look at my career with a five-year view. I considered having surgery, but the doctors have always preferred not to take risks with my treatment."

The 11-times grand slam singles champion was pragmatic about his return to competition. "I would like to return in January," he said. "I don't expect to return and win the Australian Open, I have to be realistic. The results will not worry me in the first tournaments back. "I have to take into account my form after so long out. It wouldn't bother me if I slipped down to 15th in the world as long as inside I knew was able to continue. "I want to be 100 percent in time for Monte Carlo and the run-up to Roland Garros." Nadal won a record seventh French Open title in May.

And so the mind games begin again.

" I have expected much more from this season but the things just weren't going in my favor so the best decision would be to announce retirement. "

And so the mind games finally ended .

Has nothing to do with form ans everything to do with confidence.

Federer / Haas / Safin / Gaudio / Kuerten / Youzhny / Nadal / Gonzalez / Ljubicic / Hewitt / Soderling / Wawrinka / Coria / Nalbandian / Kohlschreiber
