Re: Rafael Nadal Injury/Health Update Thread : Spanish Press: Nadal not in DC etc

anyway, nadal isn't winning AO again. he got the one that he needed, isn't happening again

his game is just not suited to those courts, except on paper. but he just plays weirdly there, should be content with QF there

same for US Open, he can't rely on playing his way into form and outlasting everyone anymore; this isn't 3-4 years ago. Wimbledon is unlikely; as has always been suggested - when the grass plays fast and low bouncing, he's in trouble

he should focus on retaining RG, because once he loses that, he's fucked

Yes, those 2 titles and 3 finals were just a fluke.

when the grass was slow, high bouncing, and he actually had the quickness to get around the court...

these days, especially with the roof, it's fast and low bouncing, and nadal does not have the movement he once had

barely even worth mentioning that he should shorten the points; doesn't have the serve or the volleys

therefore, compared to before, wimbledon is unlikely

shouldn't be difficult to understand

Don't worry, if he wins the grass will suddenly become slow and high bouncing again.
As for his movement, maybe the knee had something to do with that this year. There were some injection marks on the left one.

no, if he wins again it will be a surprise. he's declining, no doubt about it

as i said, RG is his last stand, he must retain that if he wants to be in with a shout

those clay points keep him safe and secure in the top 4 even if he has a crap year

it is nadal's choice to play tennis, and play tennis the way he does, with the body he has.

if that requires the use of advanced medical techniques, so be it

however, this means he is a hypocrite if he complains about injuries, or about the season/courts being too demanding

can't have it both ways

No it won't. He'll be one of the favorites at the start of the tournament. Now that he broke Borg's record at RG, I think his motivation to do well at Wimbledon will be much higher.

IMO Rafa is way more likely to win Wimbledon than Novak is

no. federer and murray are the favourites at wimbledon these days

djokovic is 3rd favourite (obviously the favourite for the hard court slams), and only because he is consistent. he has this natural aversion to grass

i wouldn't even put nadal as 4th favourite, i'd say that would be tsonga or, shudder, berdych

nadal should concern himself with RG, not Wimbledon. his success at Wimbledon stems from his success at RG

that is why, in his decline, he must retain his points on the clay

don't compare nadal to borg. he's better on the dirt, but not as good as borg on the grass, and no where near on hard courts/indoors

It seems you are basing your opinion only on what happened this year.
Looking forward to a potential Nadal-Berdych final with Berdych as favourite.

NADAL WITHDRAWS FROM PARIS AND BARCLAYS ATP WORLD TOUR FINALS

Rafael Nadal announced his withdrawal from the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris as well as the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London on Wednesday due to a left knee injury.

Nadal said, "It’s disappointing for me to miss the last two tournaments of the season in Paris and London, but it doesn't come as a surprise. I will hopefully resume my tennis practice soon since I am making good progress with my recovery from injury. I am not ready to compete in time for these events so I will continue my recovery in Mallorca and work hard to be back as soon as possible."

Brad Drewett, ATP Executive Chairman & President, said: "We wish Rafa all the best as he continues his rehabilitation from injury. Rafa is an incredible champion and it goes without saying that he has been missed on the ATP World Tour over the past few months. We look forward to welcoming him back on the tour very soon."

Not surprising. I hope he can recover.

What will his ranking be by the end of the year?

Wouldn't he have been eligible/applied for protected ranking anyway?
