only reason the netplay was working so well was because he was playing very agressive. naturally any player is going to be stuck behind the baseline if he does this, even more competetant ones than Tomic. certainily other opponents will be tougher, but with the way Andy is returning then you have to imagine he could knock out some big guns. he's beaten all of the top guys before and can do it again if he's in form so it's bizarre that you would imply otherwise.

tonight he played smart, aggressive, and moved in at the right times. even against a better opponent he can do a lot of the same things, but time will tell.

Has he got a chance of winning the tournament if he plays to the same level? No. He'll need to play better than this to trouble the favourites. Has he got a chance of beating Djokovic, if he gets far enough? Doubtful.
I don't know what you're expecting. Roddick is going to swing for the fences for this entire tournament, but why would he swing for the fences if Tomic doesn't feel like swinging his racquet? Dude went for drop shots at an absurd distance behind the baseline on more than one occassion, lol.

he's beaten Djokovic before and his game matches up to Djokovic very well when he's in form. TOmic gave up in the 3rd YES, but Roddick's game was working wonderfully against a fairly ok Tomic in the first 2 sets.

you are mistaken in doubting Roddick's chances in later rounds. I'm not saying he would have great odds against the high seeds but he certainly is capable of beating them. retirement inspiration goes a long way too, and so does the crowd support.

Terrific display of aggressive tennis by Roddick. I think I was most impressed by his movement. That's the best I've seen him move around the court in awhile. Nice stuff Andy!

Tomic...well thanks for coming

Though very unlikely, wouldn't it be something if we were to have one last Fed-Roddick final here.

Can't wait to read what australian papers wrote tomorrow about this pathetic show of Tomug, especially in contrast to the heart and efforts lleyton showed earlier.

I'd have a heart attack just on the first set.

Of course folks are going overboard. No surprise there. Good match but it was a 2ND ROUND MATCH against an unseeded player, not some great semi etc. It was great to see Andy do well in the big stadium, but let's not get ahead of ourselves in how far he will go.

Great performance by Roddick. really beautiful net play. Great serve, great court coverage. I don't know who is 19yo here. Tomic just looked lost to me. anyway, really happy for Andy. great job
