The battle for No. 2? Duck, Potato or Hippo?

Race points as of today, before the Safin/Hewitt match in Paris

2. Roddick - 671
3. Hewitt - 648
4. Safin - 497

At this point, any of these three can, mathematically, be the year-end No. 2.

I wonder if Safin can do it? I guess he'll probably need to to do very well in Paris and Houston. At the very least, he'll need to win one and be a finalist in the other, and win two or three of his Round Robin matches.

We'll know more after tonight's match in Paris...

Regardless, I'm very amazed that Safin actually has a shot of becoming No. 2, considering his low ranking at the start of the year!

I'm cheering for Potato, if Marat can't do it.

By te way I'm so amazed at Marat. The way he was playing this year... Tell me why is he in the top-5?

Oh, and to be fair, Potato's done very well this year too.... Wasn't he at No. 18 or 19 at one point?

For the same reason he was ranked high in previous years, by finding the right balance between being Marat and being an Oaf

It would be great to see Marat end the year at Number 2 - but I'm not sure it will happen............so like Vass - I'll be cheering for the Potato to end the year at Number 2

Re: The battle for No. 2? Duck, Potato or Hippo?

what would Safin need?

Win Paris, Win TMC and Potato /Duck lose all round-robins at TMC?

I think it is possible that by the end of the year Safin beats the duck, but not the potato. But it would partially depend on what happens today (Paris qf --safin/hewitt)

Re: The battle for No. 2? Duck, Potato or Hippo?

Safin needs to win today to have any chance of being number two or three at the end of the year. If he loses to Hewitt, then he cannot overtake him or Roddick, even if wins TMC without losing a match.

Hewitt has closed the gap on Roddick (165 points at the moment). A win today and tomorrow would put him ahead going into Houston.

Good luck guys

edit: mitalidas - now I see your post - obviously another case of minds thinking the same thing at the same time!!

I would like to have Roddick stay there of course, though Hewitt or Safin at #2 wouldn't really bother me so much, it's nice to have the top names back.

Re: The battle for No. 2? Duck, Potato or Hippo?

Well, the Hippo chewed up the Potato... Good job!

The points are now

2. Roddick - 671
3. Hewitt - 648
4. Safin - 517

Safin is edging ever closer to the year-end No. 2, but will he actually do it?

Re: The battle for No. 2? Duck, Potato or Hippo?

He'll have to go virtually undefeated and Have Hewitt and Roddick fuck up miserably at TMC. I just don't see that happening, and if it does then Hewitt/Roddick have serious problems.:retard:

Re: The battle for No. 2? Duck, Potato or Hippo?

safin won't be able to get no.2, left his run too late and now is probably rueing his pathetic performance in teh US open

you would thing either roddick or hewitt will advance past the round robin stage in teh masters cup and that would do it
