It's just time for David to retire. It only get's worse and worse with him. Time to call it a career and move on.

Re: Nalbandian out of US Open

Here goes the most interesting first round match...

I also wonder how he injured his rib cage... Nalby's a rather weird guy, so... maybe the judge from the Queen's took revenge on him and kicked him in the ribs?
(OK sorry I shouldn't be joking about his injury )

Would have been a fun contest.

Easier match for JMDP though, Serra is a hack. Shame Rosol didn't get the spot.

Sad for Nalby. Would've been a great match against Delpo.

True, it's sad Nalby is out as we'll miss on a potentially great match. Great for JMDP though, his USO preparations weren't ideal because of his wrist, so beating up on some lucky loser is a far better way to start the tournament than facing Nalby.

Too bad it's not Rosol or Berankis though, I always enjoy watching JMDP easily dismantle one dimensional ballbashers at their own game, returning their bullets with interest. Serra is a huge pusher, Juan doesn't like facing pushers, the match has all the makings of a very boring yet NID non-contest.

I cannot help but wonder about all of the well-wishing Nalbandian always gets on MTF.
The guy's a stereotype underachiever, mostly because of his poor physical conditioning, and yet another early ousting and/or withdrawal from a big tournament shouldn't surprise anyone anymore by now.

In other words: my good wishes for Nalby's recovery, but it may well be a proper idea for him to call it quits and start doing what he enjoys most in life, which I highly doubt is playing tennis at top level.

First of all, he is injured and it's natural that tennis fans wish him well ie that he recovers fast.

Many people were also eager to see him face JMDP, which had the potential to be the best first round match of this year's USO.

More importantly, Nalbandian's brand of tennis is extremely beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, his backhand is arguably the most beautiful shot in men's tennis. The beauty of his tennis earns him a lot of fans or people who simply wish to see him do well.

Just my two cents. It's not that people aren't aware of his flaws, they just wish to see him do well anyway.

umm...no. Serra was always kinda a Davydenko lite in his prime, even more aggressive now his movement is gone.

Re: Nalbandian out of US Open

Nalby makes a double-handed backhand look good. He is an absolute joy to watch when his game is on.

Not meaning to be insulting to any Nalby fan, but the last time I witnessd that was back in 2005.
No hard feelings folks.

Nope, he achieved pretty much all he could with that WTA serve, forehand, mental strength and fitness worse than my neighbor's fat kid who struggles to scale a 5 stair staircase in order to get into his house.

It's actually true. Nalbandian has a truck load of weaknesses. It's actually amazing that he reached a GS Final with nothing special except a backhand.

Who exactly are you to question whether or not fans should be sending one of their favs well wishes after an injury? Of course we are going to hope the best for him. We realize that Nalby is no longer at his peak, but we still enjoy watching him play. Evidently he still feels he has something to contribute as well or he could have left long ago. I for one would rather watch a 50% Nalby anyday over 90% of what passes as good play these days. If you want to usher some players into retirement, how about you start campaigning for the Lorenzi's of the tour to leave. We still need Nalbandian.
