A question about umpires

These past weeks we've talked so much about players having a tough schedule and having to travel from country to country, from hotel to hotel, with hardly any rest. Umpires seem to do the same, but I was wondering if anyone knows whether they can choose a schedule for themselves or whether the ATP tells them at which tournaments they have to work. Can they choose the city to go to when there's multiple tournaments being played in one week? How much rest do they have during a season?

I'm just curious about these things

SINCE THERE'S NO TENNIS ACTION I WENT FOR TONGUE ACTION

Re: A question about umpires

I think they have a fixed schedule, given by the ATP. That's very hard, I figure.

Re: A question about umpires

what i wanna know is how they dont ask for a toilet break even if its a 5 set, 5 hour match

Umpires get a schedule given to them by the ATP, they cant pick where to umpire though, but they are given a few weeks off now and again.
There are a few full-time Umpires.

That's something I wonder as well, but they might sweat it out

Re: A question about umpires

Often tourneys use their own umpires. In GB the LTA provides all officials for all tourneys, so maybe that happens elsewhere?
They do travel some, but noway near like 11months!

Jim Thomas - Max Mirnyi - Jordan Kerr - Rohan Bopanna - Andy Roddick - Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi - Ilia Bozoljac - Chris Haggard - Jan-Michael Gambill - Donald Young - Nathan Healey - Lleyton Hewitt - Jamie Murray - Olivier Rochus - James Blake - Vince Spadea - Tim Henman - John Isner - Travis Parrott - Paul Goldstein - Tim Henman - Wes Moodie - Arnaud Clement - Michael Russell - Jeff Coetzee

Lars Graf apparently does sometimes... Atleast he said he does in one interview... But he also says that he has a thorough preparation before the match....
