Maybe, but at least Robredo has won 5 4th round matches.

Robredo's record at the US Open is ridiculous, I had to google it, 7 4th round appearances! It's actually an excellent record considering it's far from his favourite surface. You'd think Gasquet would be doing a little better considering he has more power and flair.

Re: Will Gasquet complete the CY(R16)GS?

People say it's a mental thing with Gasquet. To me, it's more like a technical thing, he's usually not as good as the players he faces in the 4th round. I also used to believe he had the ability but perhaps not the physical conditioning or mental strength to go to multiple slam semi finals. However, having watched him play a lot of matches, he is vulnerable to players who can be aggressive and consistent against him. His much talked about court positioning is part of the problem but it's also a partially technical issue about how he likes to hit shots, not only a problem about his tactics. Fact is, he needs time to prepare off both wings. Although he has great invention and 'intangibles', he cannot stand on the baseline and consistently rally with players who have superior weight of shot and aren't missing much. Impressed by his consistency though. It's funny that Gasquet has always been considered the 'precocious talent' type of player. Flashy, brilliant, wildly inconsistent, can beat anyone, can lose to anyone. He has become the antithesis of that in many ways, beats who he should, can't beat the better players.

Re: Will Gasquet complete the CY(R16)GS?

Update Alert!

Things aren't looking good for Gasquet at the moment. Isner is a potential 4th round opponent, and improving his seed position isn't doing him any favors. But I still have belief, Gasquet has yet to not disappoint.

If at first you don't succeed, lower your standards.

Up. He didn`t win already (2-0), but I can forget about this thread later. Hope Richie wouldn`t make me to be laughed at later.

Gasquet is next №1

Re: Will Gasquet complete the CY(R16)GS?

Okay, this is it folks. Gasquet is one match away from completing this once in a career feat. He's a heavy favorite (to lose) against his favorite opponent Ferrer. Let's all root for history!

Very good post. Still great to watch though. And you wouldn't bet against him causing one or two upsets in future slams.

1-12 in 4th round is quite something. He's 14-3 in 3rd, by the way. And 17-4 in 2nd. And - of course - 1-0 in QF.
