If I were a Rafa fan I would be thinking this.

But as a Fed fan I don't enjoy many Fed-Nadal matches.

8th day of July 2012: 7-time Wimbledon champion!

Once upon a time there was a myth about strong and weak eras. On this glorious day the clownery was eventually unmasked: 30 y.o. past-prime daddy Fed became #1 once again in the supposed strong "Spartan" era with his rivals at their peak.
And they all lived happily ever after.
Long live King Federer!

I do not like his interpretation of tennis either, by that I mean all his intentional time-violations, trying to stop the opponents serving rhythm, wanting a bi-annual ranking, etc.

Watching his matches are a borefest.

Tennis is the winner.

In the same way, I wouldn't miss Cristiano Ronaldo. He's as good at football as Nadal is in tennis, but he is a massive flopper, whiny bitch (like nadal), and does all kind of tricks to gain an advantage. I hope Cristiano stops playing football the sooner the better.
Messi, on the other hand plays total football, the beautiful game, rarely flops, plays for the team. Sounds a lot like Federer to me.
besides there are plenty of quality players right now.

When Fed retires, now THAT is gonna be doom.

What's exciting about Nadal-Murray? They hardly played a close match. Nadal-Fed is exciting as long as it's not on clay, which is like once a year.

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

Tennis wont lose by the retirement of a player even for Roger .A new player will come and fill his boots The game is always bigger than the player

EVen though Murray has stepped up more, i think it will be a lose for a while for tennis if he retire by this year it is because there is no guy that is gonna take his spot if there is a player that immediately puts himself in the equation of Murray, Federer, Djokovic i don't it will be much, though i don't see anyone be in their with those three currently.

rhetorical question, no?

Roger Federer ~ Rafael Nadal

Nadal will play at least 2013, probably 2014 as well. Let's talk then.

Talk of retirement = ridiculous. But if the unthinkable did happen then it would be one of the greatest losses tennis has ever seen.

Re: Would tennis lose if Nadal retire right now?

Tennis would lose, Nadal is a beast on the court. He is a dedicated athlete, there is none like him. He creates this rotten feeling in his rivals and opponents; when you face him, you know you have to play out of your mind.
He plays every point hard and makes you go for your shots, you can't push the ball in play against him, it's just not going to cut it.

Now I am not a fan, but I appreciate him, his uniqueness.
Rogers Cup is boring, the Olympics sucked, the game will move on when he retires but right now it sucks that he is not playing

He also brings out the best of my fav player. That's another reason why I would miss him if he retires right now.
Thread should have been closed after this.
Huge number of people are watching tennis only because of him, and would probably stop doing so if he retired.
This alone is enough to say that sport looses with his retirement.

While Montenegro was part of Yugoslavia, its internet domain was .yu, now it is .me

Re: Would tennis lose if Nadal retire right now?

I think tennis loses every time a good player retires (too) early. I' am not a big fan of Nadal and more often than not root for his opponents. But I don't want Nadal to loose due to him playing a poor game. I rather want his opponents to step up and play really well. And if he doesn't play against one of my major favorites in the game, I can surely enjoy Nadal playing supreme defense and running down seemingly impossible shots. If he declines or retires too early this will be missed by me.
