It's a rare event but it does happen. It hasn't happened on ATP for quite a while but 1998 WTA Birmingham was called off mid-week due to rain.

Reunion challenger got cancelled last year because of heavy rain and flooding, at a quaterfinal stage I think.

Re: If Toronto is cancelled...

Toronto forecast is for rain with thunderstorms possible all day today through early evening. Then rain again tomorrow with clearing Sunday and Monday and sunny weather early next week.

Respectfully,

It`s useless if it`s good weather next week. The players will be in Cinci by then.
If they don`t play the matches indoors,it`s impossible to finish it by Sunday.
With one day behind already, the players have to complete 2 matches. If they fall even further behind,it`s pretty much compromised that they will finish it on time.

I fully expect to see Djokovic retire due to personal reasons. Or he'll stay on and vulture Toronto and tank Cincy.

They moved some doubles matches indoors already, if I understood correctly, maybe will do the same for singles.

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

In a way it would be the correct way to proceed if they want to complete the tournament but on the other hand it would be unfair to the players to play on a court they haven`t practiced and also to the fans and TV viewers(i doubt there will be any tv coverage).

Re: If Toronto is cancelled...

The only story on the news here is warnings about today's thunderstorms and the massive amount of rain we're due to get. The organizers need to pull their heads out of their asses and stop with the "we're hopeful" crap & recognize reality.

They need to move yesterday's matches to an indoor court NAAAAOOOO!

In that way, if there's no outdoor play today, they will still only be behind one round. If by some miracle it did clear up today, they'd still have the opportunity to play the regularly scheduled Friday roster (i.e. they'd still have matches for the ticket holders).

If they do nothing, they will have three rounds' worth of matches to play on Saturday (which is also looking rainy in the forecast).

Re: If Toronto is cancelled...

I bought a book of tickets for the entire week. There are no refunds because it is pointed out that matches cancelled on one day are played later, so a weekly ticket enables one to see all the matches. You only get refunds if you buy single session tickets. That is unfair to the dedicated fan who spends a large sum and buys a ticket for all 13 sessions.

Now it looks like that I may not have access to all matches, so I am wondering how much they are going to refund me if not all matches are played outdoors at the Tennis Centre.

The rain has eased off, but another band is expected during the afternoon. Maybe there can be a night session, which I probably won't go to. Too cold!

Re: If Toronto is cancelled...

The weather forecast is even worse than yesterday, they need to play indoors today otherwise they can't finish the tournament before Cincy starts, and playing 3 matches in a day shouldnt be an option.

The funny thing is as of last week, we were in a stage 2 drought.
