Hewitt defeats monfils 6-3 7-6

Watched the hewitt match today, and i must say ( i wasnt previously impressed with him) but i was very impressed with him tonight. Such a fighting spirit, and a great attitude on court, really pumped up for it. Great movement, and able to hit very consistently, and from no where slam a winner in your face. Some of the retrieving he came up with was amazing.
His forehand is a great shot, as well as the serve. He has improved the backhand, from the past few times i have seen him.

This is about monfils, not hewitt! for the guys who read wrong

He is indeed awesome and despite he's incredible record, still often underestimated.
The thing with Hewitt is that he is not "in your face" talented as Federer but when you analyse his game, there are so many things he does right.
I hope he lasts long in Paris so that I can see him on TV; it's always a pleasure to watch him.

Re: Hewitt defeats monfils 6-3 7-6

I watched some highlights on the news and I thought Monfils was the one who looked impressive. Everyone knows that Hewitt is good, but people say Monfils isnt, but he hit some good winners off his supposedly weaker side, the backhand, and was going for it till the end. I didnt think he looked arrogant at all either. He looks like someone to watch out for.
Hewitt is always really pumped up and a good retriever, so I'm not sure why you were surprised at that.

I think Hewitt was enjoying that the crowd was overwhelmingly supporting his opponent, it pumped him up more.
Monfils is a great prospect, kudos to him

Re: Hewitt defeats monfils 6-3 7-6

i thought both players did excellent. hewitt played extremely well, monfils also played good and i think he will be a player to lok out for in the future. i've only seen monfils play twice before and i love the way he gets the crowd involved and how excited he gets after each point he wins. he reminds me a lot of hewitt. good luck to monfils in the future and to hewitt in the tournament and hopefully he will go on to win it!!!

Monfils impressed me although he reminds me of Roddick

Hewitt wasn't that great IMO but he did enjoy the crowd

Re: Hewitt defeats monfils 6-3 7-6

I was in Bercy yesterday and I can say you it was a fantastic match, with long rallyes... The atmosphere was just incredible, and for once Hewitt was not booed by the crowd (I have to admit he makes efforts to be less arrogant on the court and it's better like that).
But he's a boring player, I don't like his game, he never makes faults that's sure but he's not spectacular. He's reallu not the guy I like to see playing.

I guess I read the first post totally wrong because I thought he was talking about Monfils in it

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.

LMAO I thought this was a joke thread at first. But you really seem to be for real. How can you compliment Hewitt when he beatd a wild carder. I mean Monfills is fresh out of junior high school. Of courst any experienced player will come off looking like a God against a rookie. Roddick ate up Scoville Jenkins in the 1st rd of the U.S. Open. But you didn't see everybody pop up with posts about how amazing Roddick played because, Roddick wasn't tested. Save the Hewitt adoration for when he beats a quality opponent. I think you are being disrespectful to the lucky loser in this match.

Same here.

Hewitt was well below his best in this match and had Monfils had a little more experience Hewitt could have found himself on the wrong end of the outcome.

Re: Hewitt defeats monfils 6-3 7-6

I did think it sounded a bit strange to praise Hewitt for beating a junior

However you only mentioned Hewitt's name in the post and not Monfils, and called it 'the Hewitt match' so it was natural to assume you were talking about Hewitt.

Re: Hewitt defeats monfils 6-3 7-6

I can see why people thought that. I just assumed it was about Monfils since it didn't make a lot of sense to be about Hewitt. Well, that and the comment on the serve. Not that Hewitt has a bad serve, but when people praise his game that isn't something they usually bring up.

I lack direction.

Chocking makes me sad.
