How will Del Potro finish the year

I think today's Olympic semi was probably the closest we've seen to Del Potro recapturing the heights of late 2009 and given he did it on his weakest surface I'm cautiously optimistic about the rest of his year.

I'd be interested to know what MTF think his chances of success are for the rest of the year now.

(poll is multiple choice in case you think he'll achieve several)

Re: How will Del Potro finish the year

In terms of ranking, #5.

Don't think he will win the US Open, but he must definitely be considered a contender, anyone who watched him this week (not just today) can see he is rising back - his serve is improving, he is more confident on his shots and is improving at the net too. It's all a matter of staying healthy and keep improving his game; at 23, he still has quite a lot of upside.

Re: How will Del Potro finish the year

He needs to beat the big 4 first.
Then we talk.

I actually think Bernard Tomic will easily win career-year mixed doubles slam in 2020.

Jealous? Yeah, you are, you dirty hater.

No big titles. Perhaps a minor title or two.

I will be rooting for him in bronze medal match, and I hope he will reach at least semis at USO.

Roger Federer - Martin Klizan - Lukas Lacko - Milos Raonic - Fernando Verdasco

Dustin Brown - Nick Kyrgios - Norbert Gombos - Stanislas Wawrinka - Dominic Thiem

It depends on whether he spends some time learning from fellow countryman Carlos "Motherfuckin" Warlocq or not.

Agreed. 2013 could be his best year yet. Maybe even another major, wouldn't that be something. He's finding that 2009 form again.

A minor title in the indoor season and perhaps Davis Cup

Re: How will Del Potro finish the year

I think it will matter greatly whether del Potro comes back from today to win the bronze. If he does that (meaning he'll finally have beaten one of the Top 3), I predict he might finally get a Masters shield.

If not, he's still going to have that mental block until he gets that win so I predict only a minor title.

Andy Murray: 2012 Olympic gold and silver medalist. US Open Champ. Wimbledon champ. Never been prouder of him.

The Brian Baker Story. Proof that truth is stranger than fiction... until Hollywood buys the rights and proceeds to keep screwing the script up.

Re: How will Del Potro finish the year

He needs to get his 2009 serve back, that is really the biggest technical thing that is holding him back.. Of course mental strength is something that was crucially strong for him in 2009 when he found his form, but that can't really be pushed, it just takes time and more matches with some luck on your side. I'll say he ends the year as #8, with a QF run at the US Open. He isn't ready yet.

Federer / Haas / Safin / Gaudio / Kuerten / Youzhny / Nadal / Gonzalez / Ljubicic / Hewitt / Soderling / Wawrinka / Coria / Nalbandian / Kohlschreiber

Interesting prediction. Considering your accurate assessment of Roger's brilliant play, I can't wait to see what Delboy will do in 2013.

As for this year, I hope he wins a masters and does well at the WTF which now I'm sure he should make. But first he needs to secure his #8 seeding.

Re: How will Del Potro finish the year

He won't finish in the top 4, that's for sure.

A small title somewhere, some quarter-finals and a placing in WTF. That's all.
