Yes! Verdasco had set point on his serve at 9-8 but Istomin just rattled off 3 in a row

Never a bad day when Fiasco Mugdasco fucks up in a match like this.

Re: Olympics R1: Istomin def Verdasco 6-4 7-6 (9)

Verdasco after missing a few setpoints, gets **9-8 with some nice play. Promptly misses volley into open court and doublefaults, then sticks a return long for the match.

I don't really get these comments when Istomin has been a strong grasscourter his whole career and is getting better and better

Re: Olympics R1: Istomin def Verdasco 6-4 7-6 (9)

Verdasco is absolutely useless these days. Shows the 'depth' in tennis when he's ranked at 16 when he's done nothing since the 2010 claycourt season where he ruined his RG chances by playing 8+ hours expending physical and emotional energy in Nice. He's a mess. The movement, that backhand, tactics, hair (jesus) and defence.

Istomin was lucky to get out of there in straight sets, playing 8 feet behind the baseline every time he got a look in on a Verdasco serve.

The handshake was hardly a warm embrace, but I've seen far worse from Verdasco and especially under such circumstances, so credit to him for not completely throwing the toys out of the pram and making me cringe again.

Excellent result.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

At time, Istomin really is a good player. What's his rank?
