Los Angeles R1: Ram def. Baker 7-6 (3), 7-5

baker was sloppy and weak. The fact that rampras out-rallied him from the baseline just shows how weak is on the hard court season so far. It's time to panic imo, it's hard to get confidence when you are losing to out-of-form challenger players and you really aren't playing well at all.

good opportunity for rajeev to get some points here. I'm expecting a poor finish to baker's season.

If Rampras can outrally Baker.....

Back to Challengers?

Baker completely out of form. Fatigue finally catching up to him?

RAFAEL NADAL and GRIGOR DIMITROV

Rafa winning at least one slam in 10 consecutive years is the best achievement in Open Era tennis since Laver won all 4 Grand slam tournaments in the same year!

Baker was playing like a mug on fire this match, just mindless.

Good work Rampras.

Game over. Forever.

I will give rajeev credit that apart from some patches in this match, he was consistent and had a deadlier server than baker.

Brian's backhand has become really, really bad. I wouldn't say sock, johnson level, but it's almost a freebie for a competent opponent. I'll credit Rampras with acknowledging he is stronger than Brian and just taking it away from him.

Great win Rajeev

Baker was pretty terrible in the first round of Wimbledon qualies as well, even though he had been practising on grass for a week. I think he might need just needs to play more matches.

Re: Los Angeles R1: Ram def. Baker 7-6 (3), 7-5

it's understandable possibly to not be quite into his groove yet, but losing to Ram is certainly worrisome...... hopefully Baker really puts in the long yards and makes sure his body is ready for hard. hopefully he can take the wear and tear.

I really like Ram so I'm glad he got the win. I'm finding it difficult not getting excited over his draw to the semi-finals.

I said it weeks ago....Fluke run, end of story...Who loses to Ram on any surface? No Top 80 player would have lost this match...Baker will descend into irrrlevancy once again and this time next year will be back in the 300's

Ram's service motion looks very similar to Sampras' service motion.
