Re: Atlanta R2: [3] Nishikori d. [Q] Berankis 6-4, 6-7(7), 6-4

In set 2 Berankis had 5*-4 40-30 and missed 5 set points to get broken on the first BP . In the tiebreak at 6-6, Nishikori DFs like a mug and hands Berankis a set point. Berankis then hits an ugly net winner to take the set

In the decider, Berankis had chances to break Nishikori but failed to convert. Berankis had an important game at 1*-1 which lasted about 10 minutes. It was amazing what I was seeing. Berankis refused to win the game. He played well up till game-point and then hits a DF or wild error. Once he made an error twice, he lost serve.

All in all, the match was a mugathon. The result was decided by who was worse. Nishikori played far from his best and will need to improve for next round.

Fakervic played at 150% against Federer as usual.

Federer was the pioneer of first-strike all-court tennis. This is the real tennis and the beautiful game. Never forget the beauty of what was tennis. Nadull and Fakervic don't win tennis matches. They simply outlast their opponent with endless grinding and stamina. That is ugly. Beautiful tennis is gone now. Never forget the good days of real tennis.

Good job Kei, good luck against Soeda. Nice tournament for Rycka too, have a rest now and we will see you in LA.

Glad Kei got through that. His first match back on Hard Court was never going to be pretty!

Wow that's late. No wonder they weren't playing to the best of their abilities (judging by Slade's post).

I wish Berankis had won though
