Atlanta FQR: Berankis def. De Voest 6/7(4) 7/6(5) 6/3 - saved 3 MPs

Berankis served for the first set.
In the second set he played atrocious game at *3/3 and it seemed that the match was over.
What's more, he was 3/5 *0/40 down but managed to make De Voest serve for the match and broke to love.
The Lithuanian converted the 4th set point.
He was the much better player in the 3rd set.

First ATP MD for the Lithuanian since Washinton 11'.

Berankis had 39% of 1st serves in and 12 DFs in 1st and 2nd set and then in the decider 53% and 0 DFs.

This was clutch from Berankis.

The kind of win that can really propel a youngster forward in his career.

Berankis has to be one of the guys who have most victories saving MPs and he's just 22.

I really thought he was done in that second set. he was really being outplayed and he was not playing well himself. Then he dound something to save those match points and turned it around

he served well in the final set but he'll have to serve more like that than the way he did in the 1st and 2nd sets. He donated the equivalent of 3 games to de voest in those first 3 sets, he ont get away with that against better guys.

Berankis struggling with De Voest isn't a good sign imo, moreover De Voest current form is just abysmal...

Great to see Rycka getting to the main draw. He will be playing Tursunov in the 1st round, tough opponent, but the match is winnable, so best of luck Rycka!
