WHAT is with all the Tim-Doubting?

Nobody thinks he can defend his Paris title and it saddens me!

Re: WHAT is with all the Tim-Doubting?

If his title defence were say, in March then i think he would stand a good chance. His mind is on the Masters Cup qualies (Even though he denies it!) and Lucy's impending childbirth. Henman loses focus a lot of the time but when there are two huge events like this to focus on this week, plus the pressure to defend a title of this magnitude, and the fact he isn't playing brilliant tennis....it doesn't look good.

If he survives into the quarter-finals then I think he would reach the final at least because he will be more relaxed and he is better than most of the players in his draw, in terms of capability and physical state. However, I think he is very vulnerable in his first two matches which will be tough - Paradorn and then Novak / Youzhny (both title winners this wkend!).

Good Luck to Tim though - We Brits would love to see him defend it and go to Houston as more of a feared opponent than a pushover which is what a lot of guys here think he is (a pushover that is!).

With Tim now already qualified for the Masters Cup, I have much more hope for a defence of the title. The pressure is off, which is definately something which helps him.

Still, there a lot of good players in the draw, and he'll have to play pretty close to the incredible form he showed last year to have a chance to win.

Re: WHAT is with all the Tim-Doubting?

It's a very interesting draw from the Henman perspective...

Henman's in the same 3rd round bracket as Novak... (two losses in recent months), or he could face Bjorkman (poor record) or Youzhny (dangerous on fast surfaces)

With Agassi and Nalbandian withdrawing, Henman's draw really opens up until the semi-finals...

Even then Henman has a good shot.... Look at these potential semi-final opponents making it through the top quarter - Roddick, T. Johansson, Sargisian, Mirnyi, Gonzalez, Hrbaty, Saulnier, Soderling, Sanguinetti.... who are the obvious choices, and does Henman have a good record against them? Roddick, Gonzalez(?), Hrbaty(?)

Then you look at the other half, and you'd think that the other finalist would be one of Safin, Hewitt (mind permitting), or a big maybe in either Canas, Haas or Pavel.

Can Henman defend his title? Impossible if he has to face Hewitt. Probably not if he gets Safin or Canas. Otherwise he has a good shot against anyone else in the lower half of the draw.

Don't count Paradorn out! He still has to be dispatched.

I'm a big fan of Tim's but even I doubt that he's going to successfully defend his title. I don't know why, it's just a hunch. Or maybe because no defending champion has won the title in any TMS events this year - not yet anyway (I hope). I wish him luck.
