So both will decline, if at the same pace Nadal will be beating 28 year old Djokovic with ease like he did this year.

All things are subject to interpretation whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.

But it's obvious they won't decline at even near the same pace. Djokovic is a year younger and has played what is essentially two full years of matches less than Nadal. Djokovic entering the twilight of his prime while Nadal is in a sharp decline is far more likely.

And you must have been watching different matches than me this year, looked like Djokovic was about to grab himself a RG if Mother Nature didn't save Nadal's ass. Wouldn't call that beating him with ease.

Re: Can Nadal chase down Sampras?

I hope he does, but even if he doesn't still both Rafa and Pete will be considered as two of the best tennis players of all time who did quite a lot for the popularization of tennis!

RAFAEL NADAL and GRIGOR DIMITROV

Rafa winning at least one slam in 10 consecutive years is the best achievement in Open Era tennis since Laver won all 4 Grand slam tournaments in the same year!

Don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion!

Re: Can Nadal chase down Sampras?

I think we are looking at 13-14 slams for Nadal. He won't have the same longevity as Federer, so I don't think he can overtake Pete's record, though he may tie it. Hard to know for sure though.

People are failing to realize the new generation's talent (whoever that may be) that will also compete for titles

IMO that kind of thinking is looking at what has happened and assuming that is what will happen going forward. It just doesn't work that way. It doesn't take into account Nadal's declining years, which officially started a couple months ago at age 26. It also doesn't take into account injuries, which he has had plenty of in the past and will likely have even more of in the future as he gets older.

I know some think 10 RG is practically auto, but reality is it's actually unlikely. It's easy to ask who can stop him, but that is overlooking how unlikely such a thing is in tennis. No one has won more than 7 of any slam ever. Nadal will almost invariably get 8 RG crowns and break that record. I think he's got a shot at 9 even, but 10 requires the stars to align. No injuries and no one in the next three years that finds a way to beat him. He isn't winning slams after 30. His game is too physical.

if anything, there's a lack of new young talents making it big. we've been dealing with the oldest top 100 for quite a while now. hell, federer at 31 ranked no 1. tells you a lot already.

if rafito is so injury prone then how come he's played the vast majority, both GS and MS, of the important events in the past years?

Because he is a faker. This is the reason he will play until 40 years old at full force
