A very good match by both of them, but Jiri was too good and congratulations on winning Basel.

An all-round good guy and a very fair player.

Very disappointing at the end from David. Too bad a good match had to end on a sour note with practically getting booed off court. I really thought he was going to finally take the title.

I am a Nalbandian fan, but he got told that if he didn't hurry up he'd get warned and that's what happened and deserved as well.

It was a high standard match, but Novak won the points that counted and David fought very hard, but it wasn't good enough.

Layhani warned him for taking too much time and said if you don't quicken up he'll give him a point penalty for slow play.

David tried him and it was 0-15 before he served, then he deliberately mishit a ball in the next point and the crowd got on his case a bit.

Re: Jiri Novak def Nalbandian 5-7 6-3 6-4 1-6 6-2 to become Basel champion

Nalbandian has had great weeks now with good results. Well, he fell short in this one, but Novak really played a good match and David didn't have enough to come through in the fifth set.

As for Novak... yes Mark, he is a very good and likeable guy. And one of the most inconspicuous as well.

If you told me after the beginning of this season that Novak wins two singles title at the end of the year, I probably wouldn't have believed that as Novak's form wasn't too impressive back then. But with this tournament win in Tokyo and now in Basel, he really stepped it up and had a few highlights at the end.

Best of luck to all Germans : Nicolas Kiefer | Rainer Schüttler | Lars | Florian | Tommy

David should play some mickey mouse tournaments to win finals and get confidence.

I am happy for jiri anyway.

I miss: Ivan Lendl, Korda, Novak, Bruguera, Rios, Kucera, Courier, Mantilla, Costa, Santoro and Ferreira.

Good luck to:

Gaudio, Murray, Florian Mayer, Chela, Nalbandian, Radek Stepanek, Volandri, Youzhny and Verdasco.

ouch!

It's sad because he's playing well and deserves a title!

He must be tired now.
