So, it's a matter of managing the problem.

He overplayed IMO. I understand how much his clay court season means to him but that clay court schedule is packed to the rafters. He should have dropped either Barcelona or Madrid or both.

In my opinion, he lost to Rosol fair and square. No excuse.

I do think that just cancelling the exo is not the best way to go about it. People have bought tickets, booked flights, hotels. They should have gotten a replacement (Ferrer, Verdasco,...) for the actual exo match with Nadal still showing up for an interview or whatever.

A bit of a moment from Rafa, I think.
And I'm saying that as a big fan of his.

I also understand him wanting to play in front of his 'home spectators' in Barcelona and Madrid but nobody forced him to play Madrid with gun to his head, he didn't like the surface so why not withdraw completely and get some rest for the knees.

AND... WHEELCHAIR TENNIS FTW!
He has met Esther Vergeer quite a few times at GS events, no? And if his knees are really that bad then wheelchair tennis it is for him (soon anyway)!

I hope he gets knocked out in the first round at the Olympics. It's a meaningless event for tennis and there is no break between this and the start of the hard court tournaments.

It is excuse meant to troll Olderer and Djoker fans. Healthy nadal is still undefeated.

He barely lost sets in the clay season and most of his matches the opponents got absolutely routed. I don't think the over-packed clay season thing really holds up.

Well Hema it's not about sets lost, more like the accumulation of court time in these 2 months I guess, and who knows, maybe he hurt the knee on this blue stuff in Madrid. He did not look all that convincing at RG, could've even lost the final to Nole, you know that - if the petulant Nadal hadn't demanded it to be cancelled for the Sunday evening.

Well if most of the matches were beatdowns then court time is proportionally down. And except the Nole match wasn't everyone singing praises of a 2008 like performance from Rafito at the FO

Edit: Anyway, wish Nadal and his knees the very best.

Uhmmm, I don't think most of the matches were beatdowns, not many bagels this year, no? The hatas were furious Rafa managed to get the final and Nole's momentum stopped, that's all I remember. Praises for piggy on MTF? Then again I don't read GM that much.

Re: Nadal/Djoko exo postponed due to RN injury-2 wks rest

Federer should and have every right to be really laughing at this right now. It was a stupid idea right from the start to play between Wimbledon and Olympics... but did he realized just NOW? And well, he already had 2 weeks off... why all the trouble of putting this exo and making everyone buy tickets, reservations, etc, and then just to cancel? Just show up and pretend to play, not something really hard to do...

This is all true. The only problem I have with it is that again it makes it look as if injure free Rafa always plays 100% on clay and doesn't lose. And I know you do.not believe that! He looked fine in Rome and he looked fine in RG. maybe not his best on clay but that doesn't necessarily mean there was anything going on with his knee or that he overplayed. He played the exact same clay tournaments he Has been playing for years including during his "golden years".

I am not doubting this knee thing he is claiming, btw. it's just the postponing the exo part that really bugs me.
