No, if someone low ranked (or not entered in time) is interesting enough every organizer can give him a WC, without worrying how many else has done so.

Re: S.Q.T. (stupid question thread)

Do the posters here who frequently label each and every player on tour as a "mug" also say it when attending live matches?

Tomic [tom-ic] [tom-ic-ing]
verb
1. apply yourself for a small period of time before giving up. (I am tomicing this match).
noun
2. play exceedingly well for a month and then give fallacious promises to the world. (He performed a Tomic)

May I ask where does that "Live Ranking Thread" go? I can't see it on sticky?

It really should be sticky. It should be right on top of GM right now since I just posted there.

He has not given up, but there are on immediate plans. His traning regime atm is not sufficient to play, but he says doctors told him when things make a turn for the better they can go quite suddenly back to normal.

I've always wondered - how are unforced errors distinguished from forced errors? Does IBM put machines in the player's head and analyze their level of stress when hitting the ball?

no one does error by force/voluntarily. If something like that happens, then it also goes as unforced error. i think.

The person keeping the statistics decides. That is why the two aren't completely reliable statistics.

As Pratik said, the person keeping stats decides.

The general rule is that if you have to move quickly to get to the ball, it is a forced error. If you have time to prepare the shot, then it's an unforced error. Not every stat collector has the same opinion about this, though, judging from their efforts in matches I've seen.

Re: S.Q.T. (stupid question thread)

Is there a place on MTF where tennis rules are discussed/new tennis rules proposed?

If not, I'd like to know what's the logic behind a tennis server being allowed to hit a "1st serve" after correctly challenging an "out call" on his second serve? Why does the server deserve such an advantage?

Along with my disagreement with that rule, I also wish that they would give discretion to the chair umpire in allowing only a second serve (just allowed to serve once) to be played by the server, in the instance that a bad line call is hawk-eye challenged, and correctly overturned in the return of server's favor, during a rally where the returner of server was leading/dominating in the point at the time the point was stopped due to the bad line call.

It's so silly that a guy is dominating a point, wins the challenge on a bad line call, only to lose the next point on a "first serve" ace (for instance). Not to mention the fact that giving this type of discretion to a chair ump would bring back some on-court controversy that has been lost since the advent of hawk-eye.

In the situation you mentioned, that first serve is given again because the rules say "replay the point", not "replay the serve". Why the rules say this is possibly just because nobody thought about it when the rule was made and nobody cared to change it since.

Well I understand that the rule exists. I simply feel that its un just, and would be more interesting if changed. As in "replay the point, second serve".

I guess I wanted to have a debate about it, but then again, this is the S.Q.T.
