Here are historical prize money winners. First sum are the $ they actually won, second is inflation adjusted. You'll notice both Sampras and Federer has won six times each. Sampy's first, in 1990, was due to the Grand Slam cup ($2 000 000) more than his US Open title ($350 000). In fact, any winner of the Grand Slam cup that year would take home most prize money...as shown the next year, when David Wheaton won the GSC and the money list despite ending the year ranked 17. Shows that this statistic is not always a true indicator of results. Still, here it is:

1985 Ivan Lendl $1,946,215 $4,068,584
1986 Ivan Lendl $1,966,831 $4,036,651
1987 Ivan Lendl $1,995,489 $3,951,261
1988 Mats Wilander $1,719,381 $3,269,280
1989 Ivan Lendl $2,333,119 $4,232,334
1990 Pete Sampras $2,875,406 $4,948,668
1991 David Wheaton $2,412,912 $3,985,007
1992 Michael Stich $2,563,726 $4,110,349
1993 Pete Sampras $4,571,675 $7,116,595
1994 Pete Sampras $4,855,012 $7,368,971
1995 Pete Sampras $5,393,266 $7,960,340
1996 Boris Becker $4,290,477 $6,151,024
1997 Pete Sampras $6,494,461 $9,101,916
1998 Pete Sampras $3,926,347 $5,418,335
1999 Andre Agassi $4,261,120 $5,753,254
2000 Gustavo Kuerten $4,701,610 $6,176,802
2001 Lleyton Hewitt $3,770,618 $4,816,640
2002 Lleyton Hewitt $4,619,386 $5,809,026
2003 Roger Federer $4,000,680 $4,918,880
2004 Roger Federer $6,357,547 $7,613,911
2005 Roger Federer $6,137,018 $7,108,948
2006 Roger Federer $8,343,885 $9,363,279
2007 Roger Federer $10,130,620 $11,053,478
2008 Rafael Nadal $6,773,773 $7,117,554

I have no statistic for this, unfortunately, as it would be interesting to know.

Re: S.Q.T. (stupid question thread)

I have a question :

What is it with these court colours ? Almost every indoor hardcourt is blue now ...

What I remeber - Zagreb used to be red - was blue this year. Same with Vienna for example. Basel turned from red to blue last year.

This year challengers like Geneva (from purple) or Bratislava (from red) turn to blue, too. There are also more examples. Why is this ??

Roger Federer - Martin Klizan - Lukas Lacko - Milos Raonic - Fernando Verdasco

Dustin Brown - Nick Kyrgios - Norbert Gombos - Stanislas Wawrinka - Dominic Thiem

Blue is the colour that makes it easiest to see the yellow ball. Blue and yellow are complimentary colours.

Re: S.Q.T. (stupid question thread)

How come a drop shot is more effective on clay than on hard and grass? I thought clay gives the ball a higher bounce.

This is not true. Yellow and Purple are complementary colors. Orange and Blue are also complementary.

Re: S.Q.T. (stupid question thread)

pretty random but i would be interested in negative head to heads of great great players (nadal, federer, sampras, ...) against pretty unknown players. with "pretty unknown" i mean players who are/were low ranked in comparison to the top player. so something like 20 or below..

one example would be the head to head of schaller vs. sampras. which is 1-0.

Re: S.Q.T. (stupid question thread)

I don't get how the round robin format work
Let put it in my case

Player Match Set Game
Player A 3/0 6/1 36/3
Player B 1/2 3/4 19/24
Player C 1/2 3/4 23/24
Player D 1/2 2/5 12/30

Player A will definitely Qualify but who else?
When compare with number of match won Player B,C,D are tied
therefore they need to compare number of set won which is only B and C are tied
well what will they do then? compare number of games won or compare the H2H of Player B and Player C?

David Goffin

Li Na Serena Williams

Zhang Ling Zheng Jie Peng Shaui

Andy Roddick Milos Raonic

Grigor Dimitrov Ryan Harrison

Novak Djokovic

H2H between B and C will decide.

In the eventuality of three players having equal amount of sets after beating each other, then games will decide.

By the way, your tournament example doesn't add up. More games won than lost.
