Well live usually means what the points are right now, not what they might look like next week.

you may argue about the word "live" but the point is that people are interested in what is called "live rankings" (which is not a word Slasher invented : it had been called like that before) and here is pretty much the only source for that, whereas official rankings from last monday are known from many other sources, the best one being the ATP website.

Alright, so it's a dictionary definition you're looking out for. Well, when they're doing the live rankings for Day 27 of the Premier League, they should not compute it while a match is being played, because the winning points are awarded after the match is finished, not during the match.

This discussion is over.

I await useful questions, if any.

That's not what I said, but whatever.

Don't get me wrong, it's absolutely nothing personal. I really enjoy answering questions and making this as useful as possible for everyone, but when we get to "Why do we call the Live Rankings live?" and "Why do you drop DelPo's points before next Monday when you calculate next Monday's predicted rankings?" I believe I really have to point you to this thread:

I find Slasher's chart very useful. So do many others.

You, however, would - from your comments - probably have more use for this one:
http://www.atpworldtour.com/Rankings/Singles.aspx

You will notice this helpful chart has not dropped Del Potro's points from Rotterdam 2012 yet.

Well, there are a few players who withdrew from Rotterdam.

Kohlschreiber, Lacko and Stepanek being among the DAs, it would be nice to know their reasons and establish if they are good enough to escape a 0-point penalty.

Kohli is injured right now...

...cause of this he had to pull out off the Davis-Cup match vs Argentina.

P.S.: Thank you for the very nice work!!

From my experience of the ATP interpreting rules in a very nice way to players, I don't think they will get a zeropointer because none of their case is an "obvious comfort withdrawal".

Stepanek will have no problem because he's out for one month.
Kohli should be in the same case imo although he has not withdrawn from Dubai yet.
As for Lacko, he retired at 1-1 during a match in Zagreb last week and I guess he had his injury checked out there.

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings [in Post #1]

I have a question about Davis Cup. Maybe it's already been asked, but this thread has ~70 pages, so it would take a long time to go through all of them.

Cilic has 120 DC ranking points right now in his ATP500 section:
http://www.atpworldtour.com/Tennis/P...ilic.aspx?t=rb

How did he get those points if he only played 2 1st round matches this year (both wins)?
According to the points distribution table of davis cup, 2 1st round wins should give him 80 pts. So where are the other 40 pts from?

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings [in Post #1]

Cilic has an extra 40 points from last year's QF. Because he didn't play R1 last year, his QF victory from then counted as R1 points, thus awarding him 40. These extra 40 points will drop on April 8, 52 weeks after they were counted in.

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings [in Post #1]

Ah, I understand.
I didn't know that davis cup points are dropped like regular tournament points (at the end of the week in which they were attained). I thought the points were removed at the end of the season.

Thanks.

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings [in Post #1]

Dimitrov is gonna be at a new Career High (36 for now).
He can become 33rd if he wins against Baghdatis, and 31st if he gets into the final. By winning the tournament, he could reach 25th, right in front of Chardy.

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings [in Post #1]

I have good news.

I have managed to develop an update system based on ATP's Score and Stats page, located here.

That basically means that for regular ATP events, it is no longer needed to wait for the updated PDF of the tournaments to update the rankings. I will also proceed to decreasing the time between updates to two hours after the testing of these new procedures is complete. Too bad they didn't expand this feature for the Challengers. Those will remain updated when the PDFs get updated.
