What about the Davis Cup? Can Ferrer gain points there is Spain wins?

Ferrer needs 1410 more points to become YE #4.

In DC, Ferrer will get 75 points for each live rubber he wins. He will not get any bonus points if Spain wins.

Paris Title: +640
2 live rubbers in DC: +150
So, minimum 620 more needed in WTF, the only way he can do is by reaching the final. If he reaches the final, he gets either 800 or 1000 points. In both cases, his DC wins become irrelevant in beating Nadal.

So Ferrer can beat Nadal by wining Paris and a final in WTF. His DC points will not make a difference.
If Ferrer wins WTF with 1300 points, either a final in Paris or 2 DC live rubber wins will get him enough points.

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings [in Post #1]

Anyway, Nadal has 1290 points to defend in the beginning of the next year. It is not easy to come back after missing 6 months and to go all the way until slam final again. If Ferrer wins Paris, I think, we see Ferru as # 4 - maybe not on this year yet -, but in the beginning of 2013 .And I even dont remember when was last time Nadal was not Spain # 1, must be ages ago.

The last time Nadal was not Spain #1 was the week beginning 18/4-2005, when Carlos Moya was ahead of him.

after the Davis cup (actually two weeks later as the schedule is two weeks delayed comparing to last year),

it is actually possible for Ferrer to get ahead of Nadal without playing the WTF Final,

because Ferrer can get 75 points in Davis cup final if he wins two live rubbers,
but also two weeks later than the DC final, Nadal will lose 150-45=105 points from the Davis cup final last year (45=his points from Halle).

Then with a title in Paris + a semifinal in the WTF AND winning all 3 matches in the round-robin AND winning two live rubbers in the DC final, Ferrer could get ahead of Nadal in the end of the year.

As a matter of fact, if Nadal doesn't play DC final, he will finish the year with 6690 points.

And if what I said happened, Ferrer would have 6705 points.

Ferrer would also get it with a title in Paris+ a final in the WTF if he won two round-robin matches, whatever the Davis cup.

It's possible imo, and the draw in the WTF is quite favourable to him.

The fact that if Nadal doesn't play in Doha, he will lose 90 points there and have 6600 points, would only change something for the AO seeds if Ferrer only won one DC live rubber (in the WTF semifinal case with 3 round robin wins)

useless old guy

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings [in Post #1]

Janowicz provisional number 26, will be number 21 if he wins the final

Anyway he will be a commitment player next year, which will also help him money-wise (anyway he will get sponsors after this run ),

hence Chardy will not be a commitment player, which is maybe a pity for him money-wise especially considering that I think he owes a lot of money to his former coach Frédéric Fontang.

How much money does a commitment player get? I didn't find it in the rulebook...

My calculations were wrong because I forgot that Nadal will drop his last year DC final points

It's possible but very unlikely. To win all the RR matches he'd have to beat Federer and I can't see that happening.

Rafa should play Doha and Ferrer has 250 points to defend in Auckland.

Hopefully Nadal finish 5th, would love to see Olderer reaction drawing him in QF of AO.

So Novak played that Querrey match for $400.000 + R1 money. No, it wasn't a tank.

Roger passed on $800.000

Djokovic | Tipsarevic | Querrey

I think Fed can make more than 800 K in one exho show if he wants...

Is there any chance Ferrer is ranked 4th at Aussie Open?

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings [in Post #1]

Ferrer won Auckland last year, but those 250 points won't come off of his total until after The Aussie Open seedings are announced. Nadal gained 90 points from Doha, and they will come off as it is before the seeding deadline.

I am not sure about Davis Cup points though.

I reckon Ferrer needs to win at least 2 matches this week in London to have a chance of being seeded 4 for Aussie Open.
