Their ranking (live-tennis) is just one day ahead Tomorrow the live atp ranking will look like that.

Roger Federer - Martin Klizan - Lukas Lacko - Milos Raonic - Fernando Verdasco

Dustin Brown - Nick Kyrgios - Norbert Gombos - Stanislas Wawrinka - Dominic Thiem

Yeah for some reason they've already removed the Basel/Paris/WTF points ala the race rankings, but those points actually don't get removed until the 5th Nov.

Federer is definitely #1 next week also, but if he wants to celebrate early there's no harm in it.

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings [in Post #1]

the rankings are out : Murray didn't get a zeropointer for his withdrawal from Basel, although I can't see any reason in the rulebook to cancel the penalty in his case

He did not get one because he has played the correct number of 500's already, unlike Nole.

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings [in Post #1]

I have a question. Is there a zero-pointer for 250 tournaments too? If not why would players still play it when they count their best 6 out of 500 & 250?

No. For the second question,
MTF answer: Vulturing easy points in weak fields.
Actual answer: Mainly match practice. You see the top players participate in 250 events before the AO and Wimbledon the most, as that is the only practice there. Much lesser top players take part in the clay 250s and the 250s in the USO series.
Also keep in mind that for the lower ranked players, an average 250 event would be easier to gain points than a 500.

It means the respective player has withdrawn/not fulfilled the commitment from a tournament and will be penalized with 0-points for it.

Hi, I'm back. Seems the computer here thought it was a good idea to install updates and shut down on Tuesday. So, this is the reason the rankings stopped working, otherwise it would have gone all the way.

It wasn't windows though, cause I stopped those. It was some crazy software development kit I use for work. Gonna shut those down as well.

Re: Unofficial Live ATP Rankings [in Post #1]

Hi, is it possible for Rafael Nadal to use the protected ranking clause due to injury to, in effect, give him an entry benefit similar to what he would have with a 2 year ranking system?

My understanding is that if he doesn't play in more than 9 tour level tournaments after coming back from the injury he will have a #3 ranking protected for entry purposes 9 months after coming back.

So for example, as long as his application for protection is received before Dec. 28, 2012, if he were to come back for the Acapulco tournament on Feb 24, 2013 he would have ranking protection until Nov 24, 2013. I gather his protected ranking could not be used for seeding purposes or for WTF entry eligibility.

How would it work exactly? Would his points drop off like normal and only the ranking would be frozen? Or would the points be restored and frozen? Would they then drop off after another year, or would they all drop off Nov 24, using my example? Could he improve on his protected ranking?

Thanks in advance.

Respectfully,
masterclass

just look a few pages back : it was not about the commitment and the number of ATP500 tournaments played, but in principle there are rules about the way you can withdraw from an ATP500 tournament, whether you're a commitment player or not.

Well these rules seem not to be often enforced by the ATP but in Murray's case I thought the case would cost him a zeropointer and told Slasher because he asked me to tell him about such cases a few weeks ago (I had guessed well other cases in the past like Isner's zeropointer in Monte-Carlo).

In the end no Murray escaped the zeropointer.

The protected ranking is not part of the official rankings, it's also called the "entry protection" because the only purpose of that is to enter tournaments which you couldn't enter with your actual ranking because it's too low.

In Nadal's case I don't think he will need any entry protection. His real ranking is easily "protected" until Roland-Garros and then I would be incredibly surprised if he left out of the top-50 then had problems to enter MS1000 tournaments.

And the main answer : money

I'm always surprised how people forget that key-factor of professional tennis

ATP250 tournaments need to attract marketable players to attract spectators then they can offer a lot of money, often guaranteed even if the player loses early.
