Re: Arnaud Clement retires from tennis

I remember when I first started watching tennis properly in 2002/2003 and they were tipping him to retire then . The guy has been on tour for ages and he's an example of how to make the most of your tennis talents.

The thing I remember about him most is the 2001 AO Semi Finals vs Sebastian Grosjean. The Australian crowd trying to get into a match where two, relatively unknown, french guys were in the semis of a major. It was a strange atmosphere.

Decent career overall. Best of luck to him in his post-tennis life

He's had a decent career for a 172cm guy.

That was an insane match. Wow. Definitely one I remember growing up as a kid. Grosjean had 2-0 sets lead too IIRC

Class act who was always entertaining to watch and one of the nicest guys on tour. The game is going to miss him.

Re: Arnaud Clement retires from tennis

I'm surprised by the news but it's also in "l'Equipe", main sports newspaper in France.

I'm surprised by a so sudden decision but his carreer was a great one, great contribution to the tennis tour, esp. in France. Had every part of a complete player, I guess, including what he did in doubles, his mental part ... looks like a model for other players.

Always looked very nice on French TV.

Would definitely look better for Davis cup team than Pioline, as Clement has the sense of the "collective" while Pioline was a solitary guy.

I'm also surprised you say that Pioline is now his opponent as I thought it was Grosjean. Pioline looks more like the "Federation guy" who will be harsher with players.

About that Australian open semifinal personally I was sorry that Grosjean didn't win it : the mental part gave Clément the final advantage but it would have been great that Grosjean had a slam final. They were good friends, esp. in that time, and Grosjean seemed to lack the killer instinct in that match whereas Clément has always been a born fighter, he was very impressive for that.

Re: Arnaud Clement retires from tennis

Would be nice to see him playing Doubles in the future.

A shame that he lost to a mug like De Schepper in his last match but Arnaud is a legend and will be a legend forever.

Wish him the best.

Au revoir Arnaud! I will miss you!
I remember how my sis used to annoy the hell out of me when she first became a fan, but a few years later I couldn't resist anymore. Arnaud was just too likable.
