Re: Arnaud Clement retires from tennis
I'm surprised by the news but it's also in "l'Equipe", main sports newspaper in France.
I'm surprised by a so sudden decision but his carreer was a great one, great contribution to the tennis tour, esp. in France. Had every part of a complete player, I guess, including what he did in doubles, his mental part ... looks like a model for other players.
Always looked very nice on French TV.
Would definitely look better for Davis cup team than Pioline, as Clement has the sense of the "collective" while Pioline was a solitary guy.
I'm also surprised you say that Pioline is now his opponent as I thought it was Grosjean. Pioline looks more like the "Federation guy" who will be harsher with players.
About that Australian open semifinal personally I was sorry that Grosjean didn't win it : the mental part gave Clément the final advantage but it would have been great that Grosjean had a slam final. They were good friends, esp. in that time, and Grosjean seemed to lack the killer instinct in that match whereas Clément has always been a born fighter, he was very impressive for that.
