Masters Boxed Set

I was having this discussion with a mate the other day. What's the closest anyone has got (doubles or singles) to a Masters Boxed Set? By that, I mean winning every Masters Series event at least once, plus the Tour Finals.

For the purposes of this discussion, you can have won a predecessor tournament and it counts. i.e. Federer and Nadal have never won Shanghai, but they both won the Madrid Hardcourts before it moved so that counts as 'ticking the box' for that event.

I have trouble keeping track, but I get the feeling that Nadal might be closest amongst singles players (past or present). I have no idea if there is a doubles player that is closer.

Re: Masters Boxed Set

Agassi.

7/9 Masters + Masters Cup.

André has the most rounded resumé in the history of the game.

Re: Masters Boxed Set

How does Agassi have 7/9 again? Has he won one of Rome/MC/Hamburg? Fed's only missing Rome and MC so he has 7/9 + WTF. He's the closest.

Djokovic is closer than Nadal as Nadal has never won YEC.

He won Rome in 2002. Only missed Monte Carlo and Hamburg.

Basically the only big titles he missed. He has all 4 Slams + Masters Cup + Davis Cup + Olympics + 7/9 Masters. Amazingly well-rounded resumé especially considering he wasted so many years of his career.

Re: Masters Boxed Set

Hm, good point about Djoker. What is he missing anyway? I think Cincy, Shanghai and MC (Madrid in the past) might the holes in the resume which would put him next to Nadal and below Federer. Fed's still on top .

So in terms of Masters he's on par with Federer who's also missing the two clay masters.

Re: Masters Boxed Set

I think Djokovic will do it. He only has Montecarlo, Cincinatti and Shangai left and he reached the final in MC and Cinci (3 times there), so he can win them. Nadal has a big chance too.

Re: Masters Boxed Set

The point of the thread is who's come closest to a complete set of Masters titles + WTF. Am I the only one who read the OP? Come on, people, admit Fedster's still tops even here .

Yeah, forgot about Federer winning Paris last year

Don't think Federer will complete the set though. Djokovic has a slight chance imo; he has reached 3 finals at Cincinnati and one at Monte Carlo, and Shangai too. Has a fair chance in each of the three he hasn't won yet.

Federer will probably stop including Monte Carlo in his schedule and he has never been very successful in Rome.

Daniel Nestor. All Masters Series, World Tour Finals (and all Grand Slams plus Olympic gold).

Wow, I was way off. Didn't realise Agassi and Federer had gone so close.

That is extremely impressive.

For doubles I just checked the Bryan brothers and by my reckoning they have 8/9, only missing Indian Wells. That's interesting, I didn't realise they had such a good spread at Masters level.

Hm, interesting that Nestor has all the Masters. How is his slam count? Is he close there as well?
