Ivo questioning Groth´s record

http://tennis.com/articles/templates...8197&zoneid=25

Ivo:

"I was a little bit disappointed, because it was always my goal to have it," the Croat said. "I did it last year and now already it is gone, and Groth’s serve wasn’t on the ATP tour. I don’t have any idea what the speed-guns would have been like at the tournament where he did this. I know that he can hit the ball hard. I don’t usually look at the speed gun on court as when you hit an ace, that’s enough. It’s going to be difficult to beat his record. It’s strange that there was such a big gap between my fastest serve and this new record. Of course, I would like to beat the record."

I have no idea about that record, because i can´t found that Groth´s serve, but he is right about the speed difference in records and we can agree that even Ivo´s record was looking weird.

I am telling againt that unless some of those guys hit it on slams it is not telling much

Raonic´s RG record - 237kph - besides Milos top servers in last slams didn´t go past 230kmh - that 263kph i can´t really imagine that happen on slam, because how i mentioned top servers maximum over last slams was 230kph-231 and only Raonic hit 237kph now at RG - and he is clearly serving hardest 1st serve on the tour in this season.

There are minor weight difference between the balls too - doesn't matter when it reaches the other side of the net, but the "speed" is measured as it leaves the racquet. I guess also heat matters too, since that affects the resistance the air gives to the entire service motion.

You can probably figure the cumulative effect of the above by doing some sort of weighting on the slam serve speed averages.

No one should even be wondering, clearly the gun was not calibrated properly.

Peter Polansky
Nestor - Chvojka - Pospisil - Raonic - Peliwo

Serve off.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

Ivo forgets his own record is at least as questionable as Groth's

Re: Ivo questioning Groth´s record

Oh and Ivo's record was not questionable?

Karlovic was serving in the same year with Raonic at San Jose and he was barely reaching 135mph while Raonic was edging on 150mph.
And yes I dare say that Groth is closer to Raonic in speed than Karlovic.

Re: Ivo questioning Groth´s record

Kind of ironic actually.

I think he can consider him lucky that he even "broke" the Roddick record actually.

I have got a Danish retard for you right here:

http://www.atpmix.se/en/2012/05/13/t...derik-nielsen/

The interesting thing for me, is how this is welcomed around the world. Just to clarify, the measuring equipment used is ITF approved and used in other events. Still I see people trying to discredit the achievement. One prominent tennis writer saying he didn’t accept it as “it wasn’t done at an ATP-event”. What – are the balls faster at challengers? Is it only a fast serve if Roger or Rafa returns it? Or is it only a big deal if a big name like Roddick does it?
