Your Expectations For The Great Serbian Slayer For The Rest Of 2012

have at it. the floor is at your disposal.

1. will the effects of this loss at rg linger on a little longer?

2. what about the extreme amount of mental and physical capital that he spent at the rg campaign? at what point does mental and physical fatigue come into play?

3. has the dynamic between nole and the clay warrior changed?

4. are the chances for defending wimbledon and the u.s. open higher, lower, or the same?

He'll win USO most likely. Wimby/Olympics will be won by Olderer/Nadal.

a related question:

assuming nole is affected by this loss and the very long and grueling rg campaign, can Fed capitalize on this dynamic also.

can Fed get back in the picture and do some major damage at this wimbledon?

I don't think RG loss will affect him much at all TBH. He bounced back last year and won Wimbledon, and we all know how strong he can be when he's up for it. Nadal is looking great; It's hard not to have Nole favourite for USO, but anything could happen at Wimbledon.

Re: Your Expectations For The Great Serbian Slayer For The Rest Of 2012

that is a valid point right there. he did bounce back from that semifinal defeat at rg in 2011.

that being said, this was a final and it was a grueling campaign this time just to make it to the final. and then the final lasted 2 days.

Physically he seemed fine, I don't think that's going to be a problem, moreover, he's only going to play an exo before Wimbledon (unlike others ). He did better this year than the last year at RG, so mentally too shouldn't be worse than last year.

If Fed keeps playing like he did post-IW, his chances to win aynthing will be extremely slim. Anyway, if Nole defends any of the 2 remaining slams, it will still be his 2nd best year on tour (if not already).

“There’s so many athletes, tennis players around the world,” he continued, trying to put his life into some kind of perspective, “they want to be the best in what they do. They want to succeed. Many of them, they don’t succeed in the end. I’m fortunate to have this opportunity and succeed.”

He will win the USO and Wimbledon or the Olympics (not both). And he will win Canada or Cincinatti.

After that it depends on what he plays and what he skipps, hard to know but I think he will do well at the TMC.

Re: Your Expectations For The Great Serbian Slayer For The Rest Of 2012

Excellent post. Here are my thoughts:

1. I think his loss to Rafa will only play a factor for Nole if he meets Nadal in the final (assuming Nadal is number 2 seed - is that guaranteed? Anyone know?). The manner in which he lost (DF on Match Point) may weigh on him. He has struggled with his serve in the past and to have it fail on him in that crucial moment may affect him quite a bit.

2. Novak is the fittest guy on tour along with Nadal. He's also 25 and in his prime. IMO, his exertions will have no impact on his performance at Wimbledon.

3. IMO, it has changed for Nadal. He had lingering doubts about his ability to beat Novak in a best of 5. You could see that during the third set when things were going badly for him. But the delay allowed him to focus, face his fears and conquer them. Should Nadal and Novak meet in Wimbledon, it will not be Nadal going out meekly in 4. Clay Warrior will come confident and ready for war.

4. Novak's chances of defending Wimbledon are lower only because I think a confident Nadal firing on all cylinders can beat him there. I do not believe it does anything to his chances at the US Open though. Right now, I do not believe Nadal possesses the weapons required to beat Nole in a best of 5 on hard courts. He needs to rediscoverd hsi 2010 serve and 2008 backhand first.

we also should keep this in mind folks:

without a doubt nole`s best surface is hard courts.

I agree with this. I actually don't think he is all that great on grass. Last year was an anomoly. He was playing the tennis of his life, and he didn't have to play Federer and got an out-of-sorts Nadal.

This is going to be a much harder Wimbledon for him IMO.

Re: Your Expectations For The Great Serbian Slayer For The Rest Of 2012

on fire berdych or tsonga may be able to do some damage.

i have to agree with general jeff: clay warrior is bad news if your name is nole right now.

nadal will have the advantage this time. he has the confidence and the exactly the right momentum off the ground. his forehand will be far more lethal on grass.

and that backhand finally came around. it just needed clay.

Won't win another slam this year. I give Wimbledon to Tsonga or Murray. The U.S. Open. I am not sure. Maybe Nadal. Who knows. Depends on hardcourt form before

I don't know about that, I think he uses his flexability to his advantage more than hard gym work and sprinting etc, so he doesn't have to work as hard, Rafa has to work harder, and Murray too is in a similar situation, them and Ferrer I'd say are the fittest.

Novak's 6 hour grindfest at the Australian says otherwise. That was freakish the endurance he showed in that match. I hear what your saying about him using less energy than Nadal. But 6 hours of tennis is 6 hours of tennis. Novak is a machine.

I do agree Ferrer is very fit as well, but he can't last that long anymore at 30. Ferrer at 25, absolutely. Not now though.

Less impressed with Murray, but as a fan I'm pretty critical of him because I think he's an underachiever and it annoys me.
