Will Federer win the US Open and call it a day a la Sampras?

2012 is Federer's 14th year in the top 100, and his 12th year in the top 15.

2002 was Sampras' 14th year in the top 100, and his 12th year in the top 15.

There is absolutely no chance that Federer retires this year.

Johnny, can you please wait for the off season. We will run out of ideas for ridiculous threads at this rate.

Well Laver played till he was 41, so it could happen.

Possibly, and definitely not.

If he did of course it would be an even more definite no because that would motivate him to carry on playing all the more.

Re: Will Federer win the US Open and call it a day a la Sampras?

I don't see Federer winning the US Open this year, just because he's so focused on Wimbledon and the Olympics. If those two events don't go his way, it's going to be tough for him to get motivated for a US Open run.

Andy Murray: 2012 Olympic gold and silver medalist. US Open Champ. Wimbledon champ. Never been prouder of him.

The Brian Baker Story. Proof that truth is stranger than fiction... until Hollywood buys the rights and proceeds to keep screwing the script up.

Nah he won't. I don't see a sort of Sampras end for him to be honest, if he wins anything major he'll be galvanised to go for more.

Will Federer regain the #1 spot and break Sampras's record for most weeks at the top?

Roger // Rafa // Raonic // Söderling // Goffin // Ivo // Wawrinka // Baker // Delpo

Re: Will Federer win the US Open and call it a day a la Sampras?

One myth regarding Sampras is that he had the perfect Hollywood ending and retired straight after his US Open in 2002.

But of course in reality he waited almost a year before officially announcing his retirement on the eve of the 2003 USO.

He was entered in many tournaments in 2003 but kept on withdrawing the week before they started. He began to prepare for Wimbledon 2003, and that was when he realised it was time to retire.

It's similar to the myth that Borg walked away from the game after losing the 1981 USO final, which was completely untrue.

The ignorance of these words is too outstanding.

Do you even watch tennis?
