del potro matches were cringe inducing 5 setters. the tommy haas 2009 french open match was better because haas expected nothing.

Re: Federer 19-16 in 5-Setters . .

Yeah, that's something I always thought. Federer in 5 setters is usually very poor. Of course that during his prime he didn't need 5 sets most of the time, but every time he played an important match and it went to 5 sets he lost (Of course not always, but a lot of times). Vs Nadal in Rome, vs Nalbandian in Shangai and Australia, vs Safin in Australia, vs Delpo at the USO, etc...and he even was in a winning position and all those matches or even have match points. That shows he is not mentally very strong, or at least not the in the same league as Nadal and Sampras for ej. (a post created some time ago comparing them and Agassi).

Usually he was too good to go to five sets.

Re: Federer 19-16 in 5-Setters . .

Not good at all for a GOAT, his weakness has always been his mental strength.

Compared to Djokovic, Nadal, Borg, Laver and Sampras this record looks absolutely terrible.

All things are subject to interpretation whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.

Re: Federer 19-16 in 5-Setters . .

And what about the fact that he has the best record in tiebreaks?

Re: Federer 19-16 in 5-Setters . .

He was never known for his endurance. And given his style of play, this record is quite understandable. It´s much harder for Federer to keep his high risk tennis in line instead of a more defensive game like Djokovic´s. and Nadal´s.

Re: Federer 19-16 in 5-Setters . .

Uhm I think Roger was asked about this one time and he said something like when he was at his best, he didn't even need 5 sets to win, if not his record in 5 setters matches will be better
