Why are matches "To Finish" from the previous day NEVER first on court

In majors, where a match cannot be completed on the day it is scheduled for due to weather/fading light, the match is invariably scheduled second on court the following day and never first.

Just wondered if there is any reason for this? Is it to give the players more recovery time?

Doesn't make much sense to start a new match before completing one which has already started. Also means if there are further weather delays the following day the schedule goes into even more chaos.

To give the guys time to rest. To play first would be a small time to rest and be to the detriment of the tennis played.

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned....

I think it`s fair this way.I doubt anyone who finishes at 9-10pm and then goes to bed at 1 or 2 am oould play a good match starting at 11am.

This

Actually they should be 3rd so they start at about 3-4 local time unless they're in the first or second set.

Yes, it's to give them recovery time. It's the best way to do it considering say the guys last night, they just don't go off the court and straight to the hotel.

Need to cool down, get something to eat. 12 hours minimum time is what they are guided by, the players understand and don't complain about it.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

But shouldn't rest consideration only be given between matches and not within matches? Additionally, you get more rest between your match to be continued and your next one.

Obviously because the people responsible for RG's scheduling are heathens.

I think there's a clausule saying that customers get a refund for their tickets if not a single, complete match gets played from start to finish on the day. That should answer your question.

Re: Why are matches "To Finish" from the previous day NEVER first on court

Erm, no. It's because the players first up are scheduled at that time like it is with NB matches meaning at a specific time. The rest of the players would have to wait for the end of first match anyway which theoratically could last forever.
