Andy Roddick's Wimbledon Seeding

So as we all know Wimbledon uses their own seeding system, which is unlike any other ATP system (meaning they don't simply follow ATP rankings to determine the seeding of their tournament). They use prior history at the tournament in part to determine their seedings.

With that being said, Andy Roddick will be ranked about 30-35 (unless he wins Queens Club or struggles to atleast make the quarters there). That means with about 5 players out in most GS's he would be seeded anywhere from 25-30 with the various injuries to top 30 players.

But he's been a finalist here 3 times, he's made the semis atleast 4 times and the quarters atleast 3 times. The guy has a nice pedigree at the All England Club.

I have no clue how Wimbledon does their seedings and I also have no clue what the most drastic disparity has been between their seeding and ATP rankings but without knowing this how high will Andy be seeded based on his prior accolades in the tournament and the lack of those players rated in front of him.

Gasquet, Wawrinka, Raonic, Granollers, Seppi, Cilic, Kohlscieber, Troicki, Tomic and Stepanek are all ranked ahead of Roddick.

I think the ranking difference between Gasquet, Wawa, and Missile is large enough to where he doesn't jump them (and rightfully so, Raonic is basically a rookie at Wimby since his only appearance there he got hurt). But I do feel that its possible Roddick jumps the others in seeding.

Why is this important?

If Roddick is seeded in the low 20's he won't face a top 5 guy till round 3. If he's high 20's/early 30's he'll face them in the 2nd round.

Most people obviously don't care about this but Nole, Nadal, Ferrer, and Tipsarevic don't want to see Roddick in round 2 . . . .

Re: Andy Decker's Wimbledon Seeding

A players seeding can only change if he is already a seed. Secondly, Wimbledon adds on all grass court points earned in the last 52 weeks and two thirds of grass points earned the year before that (or maybe it's three quarters).

Re: Andy Decker's Wimbledon Seeding

I worked it out and Roddick will have 1415 points for the Wimbledon seeding (100% of grass points from 2011 added plus 50% of points from best grass court event of 2010 IIRC) plus whatever he gets from Queens. That would make him 23 in the current rankings, but of course everyone else is going to gain as well, so he should be slightly below 23 I reckon unless he does really well at Queens.

Will Federer regain the #1 spot and break Sampras's record for most weeks at the top?

Roger // Rafa // Raonic // Söderling // Goffin // Ivo // Wawrinka // Baker // Delpo

First thought you were Sapeod when I glanced at your avatar. Then I read the post, and it was somewhat decent and didn't predict a CYGS for Murray, so it had to be someone else.

Re: Andy Decker's Wimbledon Seeding

Roddick's first concern is to make sure he's a seed in the first place. If he loses before the semis of Queens, he'll lose 45 points (he had gotten 90 from last year but can count QF in San Jose if loses earlier than QFs). That would have him at the same number of points as Troicki, who is ranked 33. If he's the 33rd ranked player entering Wimbledon, he won't have a seed at all.

I'm no Fakervic fan but he needs to save tennis, sadly tree trunk legs will be fresh. Interesting he's never questioned....

Based on his recent form, Rodmug should be made to play qualies.

Small correction, but you're one round short. Seeded players don't meet other seeded players until the 3rd round, and with a higher seeding Mr Decker would avoid a top 4 in the third round.

However, as pointed out already, it is likely Mr Decker won't be seeded at all (Wimbledon uses its own algorithm for the order of the seeds, but the set of 32 seeds is determined by ranking only).

By the way, I expect Rodduck to be a walking bye even at Wimbledon, he's completely out of shape and form.

people underrate roddick

this is the same guy who sent federer packing in IW a couple of months ago

clay results dont mean much considering (a) he's always sucked on clay and (b) he barely cares about clay these days
