Does Ferrer possess the game to drop Nadal in Paris?

Not the mental side of things, thats 50/50.

Ferrer has beaten Nadal in US Open and Australian Open (straight sets). But you might say Nadal was a baby in one, injured in the other.

Ferrer has been playing outstandingly lately.

Could he drop Nadal here assuming he got through his side of the draw?

"I did not play my best tennis, no? And..that is what enable him to win..to win this match no? "

- Rafael Nadal, ever so "humble", - press conference after shock 4 set loss to Robeen Soderling @ 2009 French Open 4th round.

No. He doesnt have a huge weapon to hit through Nadal and he is not going to out-Nadal Nadal on this court over 5 sets. Just no.

Also..

No, its 0-100 on the mental side. David doesnt believe against Nadal on this surface. How much more proof do we need? He is worse even than Federer who afterall has a major matchup disadvantage issue at least on this surface.

When Ferrer actually decides to find some self belief on clay then perhaps, but not happening.

On Nadal bumping him on the changeover, Rosol said: "It's ok, he wanted to take my concentration; I knew he would try something".

Wilander on Dimitrov - "He has mind set on imitating Federer and yes it looks good. But he has no idea what to do on the court".

He is talentless but he might sneak a set, if he is lucky mind you.

Paris? No. Nadal is just too overwhelming for him on clay.

But who knows. I wouldn't count him COMPLETELY out. He'd have to have an exceptional day.

He does have the game and the endurance. (It wouldn't be easy of course but it could be done.)

Unfortunately he doesn't have the belief. And sadly it ends there.

Making the top 10 for years and years, still getting no respect at all. Mindblowing really. Furthermore, having a knack for working hard is also a talent.

Now waiting for Mug Lenders to drop by.

Re: Does Ferrer possess the game to drop Nadal in Paris?

Like some have said, I don't think he has the belief to beat Nadal (at least at RG). If Ferrer gets to Nadal and wins a tie-break, I will be very happy with that.

Sucks to see Ferrer gets barely any credit over here.

Tennis Fucking Sucks

Federer was the pioneer of first-strike all-court tennis. This is the real tennis and the beautiful game. Never forget the beauty of what was tennis. Nadull and Fakervic don't win tennis matches. They simply outlast their opponent with endless grinding and stamina. That is ugly. Beautiful tennis is gone now. Never forget the good days of real tennis.

I respect Pure Tennis. First-strike, all-court, offensive tennis. Players who succeed here can succeed in both an offensive and defensive eras of tennis. Impure grinders like Nadull, Djokovic, and Murray could never win in an offensive tennis era.

The only thing that troubles Ferrer is his head.

Game yes (although I am not sure over 5sets), but the mental block has become too big by now.

He's got the game, sure, that is not in doubt. He is one of only a few I think that has the fitness to go toe to toe with Nadal over 4/5 sets.

It is the mind that we are concerned with.

Another Ferrer-bashing thread. Should be a bannable offense.

Re: Does Ferrer possess the game to drop Nadal in Paris?

he definately does have the game. Had he taken his chances and beaten nadal in one of their earlier encounters this year like he could have i'd say he had a better shot at doing it because his confidence would be higher

but he just doesnt believe he can beat nadal in best of 3 on clay so he wont beat him in best of 5 on clay
